𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐲-𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐞spring. it was finally spring. a humid few months lay ahead with showers of sticky rain, glowing sunlight gracing the skin of those who waited patiently to feel it's radiant glimmer and trees, once bare flourishing with untouched, refreshing leaves.
another milestone in cindy's life was also stuck amidst the months of april and may. her eighteenth. she was excited, as simple as that. long gone were the days where she'd have to beg her benevolent mother to stay out, although cindy realised that her mother's concerns were well intended and abounding in love. the days ahead were filled with either legally drinking and going to clubs, then after that, it would be whatever adults do but cindy wasn't so bothered about that.
nineteen seventy nine was going to be eventful.
cindy and john also celebrated one whole year together, which was funny to them because it didn't seem that long ago they were sending shy smiles towards one another in the record shop.
john got cindy a bunch of flowers, which she was sure his mother had chosen for him and cindy gave him a card with the words 'i love you' messily written at the bottom in the hopes that john wouldn't spot them. cindy just wanted to get it out.
however she was greeted with an 'i love you too' which made her swallow down the lump in her throat.
now whenever john told her, it made her stomach flutter with butterflies, the best kind and her heart fill with so much happiness she thought it might explode.
she really fancied him.

stretching up to reach the corner of her curtains, she gently lifted them up to see what the weather was like. the radiant morning sun beamed through the small opening cindy created, making her squint at the sudden intrusion.
'sun!' she thought, a wave of relief washing over her. it had been a lovely past couple of days, cindy and her friends had enjoyed eating their packed lunches in the field, making daisy chains and having a break from schoolwork during their hour for lunch.
today was a friday which meant she would see john later, he'd probably bring nick as well but she didn't mind. her and nick were good friends who shared a love for all things music and fashion, plus he let cindy practice eyeliner on him and he'd wear it out...sometimes.
