I carried my bag and followed Mark as he led me to my room

I carried my bag and followed Mark as he led me to my room. I looked around the mansion with awe while we headed there, amazed by how I ended up here.

Everyone that I have seen so far looked to be around their early twenties. Most people around that age wouldn't be able to afford a place like this, even if they came together and contributed what they earned.

Clearly this group wasn't some sort of college-buddies-gather-up-to-afford-a-place kind of thing. They obviously don't abide by the rules and must be doing some extra things to live this sort of life-style.

Then how did Mark get involved?

"So, am I able to help you guys out now?" I asked, breaking the silence.

"I think so, but I might need to talk to Yuta and some of the other guys about it more." Mark replied.

"Is Yuta like the head of the group?" I asked as I took a few extra steps to get closer to Mark.

"Yeah, he is."

"Ah, I see..."

We reached the stairs and were silent again as we climbed them before I asked "So how did you get to know this group?"

"Oh, it's a long story." Mark said.

"What happened?" I asked.

"Some stuff." Mark replied as we reached the second floor.

"Is it why you had to stop coming to school?" I asked.

"Uh..." Mark hesitated.

It seemed as though he knew the exact answer to the question, but he just didn't know how much of it he should tell.

"Yeah, kinda." he finally responded as I followed him through a hallway.

His brief answers gave me the signal that I shouldn't ask any more questions. He wasn't up to answering them and clearly didn't want to let me know too much.

He then stopped in front of a door and opened it for me. I thanked him and stepped inside, looking around at the room.

There was a queen-sized bed and two nightstands to the sides of it, one of them with a lamp. There was also a closet, a desk with a chair, and another door on the right wall.

"That's the restroom." Mark said as he pointed to the door.

"Ah, okay." I acknowledged.

"Alright, I'm gonna be heading back." Mark said as he began to close the door. "Is there anything else you might need?"

"No, I'm good." I replied. "Thank you, by the way."

"Yeah, no problem." Mark said then shut the door and left.

I let out a huge sigh and looked towards the bathroom, debating whether I should take a shower or just brush my teeth before going to bed.

My eyelids felt as though they weighed a thousand pounds and I checked my phone for the time.
