"This sucks," Rock complained. "Why can't we see Sexy anymore?"
Jennifer sighed, but she really had to agree. "I know. I miss him. Now he's just going to be a cold-hearted bastard again," she snorted ironically. "Maybe we can kidnap him over Easter holidays, too?" Rock's silver eyes lit up with a forlorn hope.
"Or maybe he'll kidnap us," she suggested. Both girls stared at the wall, melancholy. A knock came at the door. Jen flinched, but Rock stood up, opening the door.
Professor McGonagall strode in briskly. "Miss Riddle, your grandfather wishes to speak to you," she said crisply. She glanced at Jen. "You, too, Miss Dewitt. The headmaster seems to be in a strange disposition, so consider yourselves warned." Jen shot Rock a worried look, but Rock gave her a small, encouraging nod.
Both girls followed the Transfiguration teacher up to the headmaster's office. When McGonagall left, Dumbledore finally turned around from his position where he was staring at the scenery beyond. "Girls, please sit down."
They remained standing.
"What do you want?" Rock asked bluntly, not being one to beat around the bush.
The headmaster let out a slow sigh. "This is going to be hard to hear, but it must be done. You two are both very lucky that you haven't been expelled, you realize. Kidnapping a teacher without any warning you were leaving is gravely serious. What if one of you had a medical emergency? What would you have done?"
Rock and Jen glanced quickly at each other and away again just as hastily. There were several emergencies, but none would be discussed ever again. "We would've gone to the hospital," Jen pointed out logically.
"Please sit down," Dumbledore implored. The girls sat down, both becoming short-tempered with each passing moment. "I'm afraid that you can no longer have lessons with Professor Snape."
"WHAT?" both girls shouted, outraged. Jen continued, "Head-headmaster, you... you can't do that to us! Sir, with all due respect, what grounds are you removing us from his class on?" Rock's eyes flashed red. It was strange for her temper to be so hurriedly activated like that. Jen swallowed hard, blinking back tears.
"Grandfather, that's not fair!" Rock snarled, her hair ruffling with fury.
The headmaster held up a finger, signaling his granddaughter to calm down a bit before doing anything. With a scowl, Rock's eyes slowly returned to their beautiful, sparkling silver. "The reason, Jennifer, is that I cannot risk another situation like this to happen again. I shall be personally teaching you potions from now on."
"This is illegal!" Rock protested, outraged.
"Since when are you adept in potions, sir?" Jen asked scathingly. "Professor Snape is beyond suitable for the job and you're schedule is far too busy to fit in an hour of potion-making."
"Jennifer, Rock," he said patiently, "I realize how important Professor Snape is to the both of you-"
"No, I don't think you do!' Rock hissed coldly. "If you truly knew, Grandfather, then you'd let us continue to see him. What the Ministry or whoever doesn't know, won't hurt them. It's our life. We're of age. Why stop us?"
The headmaster looked worn out, as if he'd fought too many battles. "My dear, I simply cannot have Jennifer's parents complaining nor can I afford to let the three of you take another little vacation. Not only have you jeopardized Professor Snape's position, but you've also put yourselves in danger. Clearly you two aren't responsible enough to be on your own."
There was a long and deadly silence. "I resent that," Jen spat quietly. "I'm a pretty responsible person, Professor. Ask anyone, and they'll tell you the same. You don't know the half of what I've been through. If I didn't think it was safe, do you really think that I would've gone on that 'vacation'? No, I wouldn't have! You're trying to control my life and just when I finally got some control back! This isn't going to end well." She ended, muttering the last sentence.
Dumbledore looked thoroughly bewildered. "Rock, what is she talking about?" he asked, for Jen had started to cry and wasn't in much condition to speak at the moment.
"Nothing, Grandfather," was Rock's cool reply. She wrapped an arm around Jen, her mouth compressing into a thin, concerned line. "We're just tired. So, if you'll excuse us, we'll be leaving now."
Rock half-dragged Jen into the corridor at the end of the marble staircase. "Jen, are you all right?" she inquired quietly.
"S-sorry," Jen moaned under her breath. "I didn't mean to start crying. It just... came out."
Rock hugged Jen tightly. "Never apologize to me for being yourself, Jen," she commanded. "Because you're my best friend. And I'd rather have you sad right now than starving yourself again." Jen nodded slowly, still looking embarrassed.
"What are we going to do now?" she muttered despairingly. "We can't see Severus anymore. This is terrible."
Rock smiled a slow, evil smile. "Now, now, Jen. Who ever said we couldn't see him anymore? Do you think I'm going to let my grandfather stop me from seeing Sexy? Hell, no! Girl, that is sane. We are seeing our man, even if we do get expelled. It was bound to happen sooner or later. After all, no one gets us."
Jen gave her a watery smile. "True," she agreed. "We are literally on our own when it comes to figuring out what the hell we're doing."
"So all we have to do is meet him when no one is watching," Rock planned. "Someplace no one will know about and no place that anyone can easily get into." They stood there in silence for a few minutes, thinking hard.
Jen's green eyes lit up as the answer came to her.
"Let's go see Sexy," she grinned. "I think I've just come up with the best place on earth."
