The Black Lake

Jen and Rock woke up early the next day, smiles bright on their faces. Things were going exceptionally well, especially after the evening they had with Severus. But they had to do something to make it up to him for bringing Draco to Rock. There was simply no way that they were going to miss an opportunity to be with him, let alone thank him. After all, he had done so much for them. It was beyond fitting they at least try to make it up to him.

"We're going to have to make sure the headmaster doesn't see," Jen whispered, so as not to alert anyone to their presence. "Doesn't he have a view of the lake from his window?"

Rock nodded. "Maybe... we could forge a letter from someone from the Ministry," she suggested. Jen gave her a strange look. "What? Do you have a better idea?" Jennifer thought about that for a few moments.

"Um... No, not really," she admitted. "But it depends on who the letter is from. If it's from the Minister himself... that's not going to work. We'd need a special stamp or something."

"All right, how about Kingsley?" Rock asked. "He's in the Order and at the Ministry. We could call the headmaster away with some important news about some Death Eater activity. That way, he'd call a meeting, and by the time they realize it's fake, we could be back inside without anyone knowing it was us."

Jen stared at the wall in contemplation for a minute. "Unless they perform a Tracing Charm."

Rock started to say something, and then stopped herself. "Damn it, Jen, quit being so smart," she muttered, tossing her blond curls over her shoulder. "Fine. Then we can perform an... Anti-tracing Charm, can't we?"

"Oh, hell, yes," Jen confirmed, took out her wand, and smiled. "I thought that you would never ask, my friend."

"I'll write the letter," Rock volunteered. "You go find an owl and figure out what the spell is."

Jen nodded. "I can do that. I've got this," she smiled broadly. "This is going to be fun."

"I know you've got this," Rock agreed. "And I've got the letter. Now go find a bird before someone notices what we're up to!"

Albus paced his office, staring off into the distance. The Black Lake looked particularly sparkling this morning. It was refreshing to see everything was going right for once. Except for Severus. He had probably already shown Draco to Rock. While there was nothing he could've done about it, perhaps there was still time to correct the situation.

A sharp tapping came at his window. Albus turned around. There was a black owl, looking quite determined. When Albus opened the window, the owl held out it's leg, a letter and a small leather pouch attached to it. With a smile, the headmaster took the letter and paid two gold Galleons. The owl ruffled its feathers and took off again, without so much as a hoot of gratitude or of acknowledgement.

Dear Albus,

My sources inform me that there is going to be an increase of Death Eater activity in Hogsmeade. I fear the worst. I am under the impression that they might attack the school. I believe that any and all security measures must be taken. There might be a chance we can stop them, once and for all. But we must strike now.

I don't like this, either. But desperate times call for desperate measures. And I'd say that Death Eaters in Hogsmeade is pretty desperate, wouldn't you?

I will stand by until I hear further information, Albus.

Sincerely,

Kingsley

The headmaster looked up from the letter, horror slowly sinking into his features. Death Eaters in Hogsmeade. Surely news within the Dark Lord's ranks didn't travel quite that quickly? Albus frowned in concern. He had to call a meeting immediately. They had to discuss possible courses of action.
