Gosuks have an image
of an Alaskan dog, so proud
and fast, with thick fur
and ice blue eyes. The mutts I know are shabby,
with matted fur and
hollow sides, visible ribs
and dead, unloved eyes.Walking down the line,
we saw a dead dog,
its chain leash tangled around
a stump. Starved. These stiff, dead, frozen,
hungry dogs are a signpost
of the carelessness and disrepair
that has shambled this people.
