Age 14
EmmaI was in the park reading one of Kathy's favorite books when all of a sudden, a soccer ball comes flying right into my lap. Knocking the book out of my hands.
Damnit. "Seth!" I yell out to my annoying little nephew. I hit the ball from my lap to see if the book was still okay. Shit. The book fell shut, and I didn't have a bookmark now. How am I supposed to remember where I stopped reading!
At times like these, I miss my phone. Especially Wattpad. Too bad my niece Lisa threw it in the toilet.
I'm going to kill that little-
"Hey, I'm so sorry about that...that...whoa." A boy's voice breaks my train of thought. I frown slightly at his words before looking up. Whoa indeed. He was cute. I felt my cheeks burn bright red as I grip the book to my chest.
"Hi..." I clear my throat. "I'm Emma, but everyone calls me Emma." he tilts his head to the side with a cute smile on his face. And he has a dimple. Swoon. "I- I mean in just Emma."
I stand up with my hand out. He stares at it for a second before he takes it in his. I swear I felt a shock.
Gosh, why am I such a dork.
"I'm Blake." he says, still holding onto my hand.
"You have an accent." I point out.
He blushes. "Um, yeah, I'm from London."
My guess was Australia, but it's still cool, though.
"I didn't mean to kick the ball at you, I just wanted an excuse to come and speak to you." I blushed.
"Really?" I ask.
He runs the back of his neck shyly, "Yeah, I've been calling out to you for the past few minutes. You were really into that book you're reading, I was starting to wonder if you were deaf of just ignoring me." He let out an awkward chuckle, and my eyes went wide.
"Plus those two over there I think are gossiping about me in sign language." He points a thumb over his shoulder at my nephew and niece.
I narrow my eyes at them. Seth and even 4 year old Lisa shot me a thumbs up.
'It was my idea to kick the ball at you. I was hoping it would land on your head.' Seth signs. I fight the urge to show him my middle finger.
"I'm sorry about that, it's just that I just really like to zone out when I'm reading... If that makes sense. God, I'm such a dork." I say with a nervous chuckle.
"You're quite a cute dork." He says with that smile that makes his dimple show before taking the book from my hands and reads the title of the book, "'The Silent Reader?' sounds interesting. What's it about?" He asks. This time, I smile.
"Under two conditions." I say, and he raises his brows in interest. "First, you have to become my best friend."
"Okay."He chuckles," what's the second condition."
"Don't fall in love with me."
