After a month, forgetting she was "allergic" to salt water, she decided she wanted to go to the beach. When she was about to tell her dad she was going to the beach, she decided to lie and tell him she was going to her friend's house. She didn't now why she lied but she didn't let it bother her. It only took her 5 minutes to get to the Skaha Beach, in Penticton, since she lived right by and decided to sit somewhere far away from the house, close to a wall of rocks where she laid down on a lounge chair to relax and sunbathe.
"Mommy look! There's a girl that looks like the queen!! Come oooon mommy just look!" Heard Autumn.
She started to look around but there were only adults there, she didn't see any little girl that could have said that. She decided her imagination was tricking her, but at the last moment, she saw a blond haired girl floating alone in the sea. She didn't seem like she was drowning so she let her be and closed her eyes to enjoy the sun once again.
"Mommy that girl saw me.. It looked like she could hear me when I was under water." Autumn heard the same voice again and suddenly, she heard an adult voice.
"We can't stay here, we have to tell the queen. It may just be a coincidence ." Said a female voice. It sounded a lot more mature than the other voice, so she assumed it was her mother.
Autumn looked around and couldn't see anyone until she looked at the sea. She saw two heads in the water, believing one of them was the blond girl, but they quickly disappeared. After a few minutes, they hadn't resurfaced and Autumn got worried. Even if all that happened earlier seemed weird, she still decided to jump in the water to see if they were drowning. She couldn't see anyone and quickly remembered that she couldn't go in salt water when she felt her legs itching. When she looked down, she had spots all over her legs and stomach and in a few seconds, she was out of the water. She started to feel reckless and fearless and went back into the water to see what would happen. Since she had a waterproof watch on, she timed how long she could stay in the water to see if it affected her. Before she knew it her legs were covered in white, purple and blue spots and she had been in the water for 3 minutes already. She kept going but soon, she'd be out of air and could potentially drown. Then, out of nowhere, she heard the little girl's voice again, telling her to "just relax, and breath". Autumn didn't know if it was her imagination or real life, but at this pint, she was already covered in the spots, so she decided to breath, just like the little girl said to do. Soon enough, she realized she could breath in the water, and at the same time, she felt her legs merge together. She looked down and..
"WHAT IS THAT! I HAVE A TAIL?!" She screamed in disbelief. "WHERE DOES IT COME FROM, WHAT IS HAPPENING, WHAT AM I?!

She had a lot of questions coming one after the other that she couldn't answer and one last question came to her. "I can breath and talk in water?!". She told herself it was all a dream, but when she pinched herself, she really felt it and didn't know what to think. She then saw the little girl hiding behind a coral reef, all by herself.
"You.. you're a mer-" She was cut off by the woman who Autumn believed was her mom. "I told you not to talk to strangers, Nora, it's not safe. Now come with me we have to go back and tell the queen."
Autumn couldn't believe it when she saw they had tails too. She thought to herself "The little girl's name is Nora? What was she saying?? I HAVE to find out." She had followed them for at least 30 minutes when she looked at her watch, but it had died since she was too far down the sea. While following them, she noticed she already knew how to swim with her tail which was an advantage, since they were going pretty fast.
"Mommy, she's been following us all along. Why didn't you stop her? "
" Because she won't be able to keep up, we are too fast."
Autumn was still shocked that she could hear them talk so clearly underwater, but what the woman said shocked her more. She wasn't going to let her be right so she decided to go faster to catch up with them. In no time, she caught up with them even tho they were still faster than her. She then saw something that would change everything she believed in.
Hi! So you may have seen that her tail colour changed and it did. Further in the story, I'll explain exactly why but for now it would be a spoiler so yeah bear with me here.
Also, in her world, mermaids don't exist yet so for her, all of that is new, that's why she hasn't realized what she is.
