Merlin began to mutter the incantation under his breath as Valiant went to the other side of the arena to fetch his sword. "Bebay odothay arisan quickum," Merlin muttered under his breath, trying to summon the snakes from the shield that now lay on the ground. Nothing happened. Gaius whispered, "what's wrong?"

"The spell isn't working," Merlin replied, panicked.
Merlin spoke a bit louder, forcing as much energy and magic into his words. "Babay odothay arisan quickum!" Still, nothing happened.

"Merlin, be careful. People will notice," Gaius whispered.

"I don't care. I need to help Arthur. It's my destiny to make sure he lives." He decided to try again. He looked over at Arthur briefly, who tried to stand up before his ankle gave way and he fell again. Merlin could tell that Uther was scared, though he tried not to show it.

Merlin closed his eyes, channelling all the energy and magic in his body. He took a deep breath. "BEBAY ODOTHAY ARISAN QUICKUM!" Merlin yelled. He could feel the spark light and he knew the spell had worked. He opened his eyes and saw the snakes twisting and hissing on the ground. He began to grin, but it fell when he saw all the eyes on him. Including Arthur's. And Uther's.

Valiant stood there, just as panicked as Merlin was. Hetried commanding the snakes to kill Arthur, but they would only obey to the onewho summoned them out. Merlin quickly reversed the spell, and the snakes went backin the shield. Uther yelled, "Guards! Arrest Sir Valiant." Quickly, guards ran up to Valiant and caught him before he could get to Arthur and stop him. "And arrest the serving boy, Merlin." Merlin's heart raced. "Merlin, run!" Gaius said. Merlin spun around and ran as fast as he could, leaving behind Arthur who sat there, shocked and confused.
