Chapter 13

Miranda

We pulled up to a large clearing that was completely green. It was surrounded by large forest that looked perfect for a pack to roam in. There was people everywhere and I could, who the human servants and who were shifters. It was very intimidating to see all the people.

I did not realize that I had started to shake until he turned to me and spoke to me, “Miranda, you will be fine.” He carefully took hold of chin and turned my face towards his. His gray shirt made his eyes seem more like liquid than a solid, the silver started to blend in with the purple. His black hair had grown a little so it was hanging slightly in his eyes making me want to reach up and brush it out of his eyes.

Instead I just answered him, “I know.”

“Come on, guys. We need to get out before mom and dad come back to check on us.” Ryker spoke breaking us out of our little world and it gave me the reminder that I am going to have to go out there and face all of those people as a slave.

“Ok.” Drake answered him, but he kept his eyes on me and I could tell that he was still trying to calm my nerves. He leaned forward and kissed my forehead before he ushered me out and had to let go of my hand.

As soon as I got out I was taken over to where the rest of the servants were waiting until we were told to serve our masters. I could feel his eyes on me as we all started the serving. After everyone was done eating. All of servants gathered in one group, when the King and Queen or to these people the Alpha, stood up to speak.

“Duelic…”The king started by saying the kingdom or the packs name. It was amazing to see the two of them standing next to one another and to see what they represented. They stood as a force to be reckoned with. I could not imagine what other packs saw of them; I would not want to be the one standing on the opposite side of them. “…today we gather with the anticipation that we will win this war. I want to assure you that we can do this. I have seen this pack, this kingdom broke down before and we have all helped to rebuild it. We have made it our home and once again it is being threatened by another force, but we will stay strong and I have faith in everyone that we will rebuild again.” All the shifters cheered and even a lot of us servants applauded for this was also our home, though some did look sour. “So tonight, when you get home and the moon is shining down on you, I want you to know that the Goddess is looking down over all of us and she is protecting us, her children. And once this war is over I want every one of us to look up to her and say our thanks that she kept us safe once again.”

“Everyone pray to the Goddess as I speak.” Gwyneth started before turning her head towards the sky. “Our loving Mother as we make our run tonight, as the sun rises in the morning, and sets in the night; watch over all of us, your children. We are in a hard time and we only wish to please you, so take care of us and those who right now are fighting. We need your guidance, will, and strength so that we can all live our lives.” The words were uplifting and resonated with everyone reminding many of those that they have lost. It was a moment where everyone was connected.

“Duelic, everything will be ok, we can cry and grieve for the children lost, but we need to remember that they died for the safety of all of us. So tonight we will be running and howling in remembrance of the lost children.” I watched as every shifter stood. They all were getting excited I was unsure what was happening, but I understood a moment later. “So…” He smirked, watching all of our impatience eat at us. “…let’s run.”
