Waking up in a hospital is weird especially if you had just assumed you were dead. Which I had.
Tubes in places that tubes shouldn't go. Luckily I have health care plans and insurance so I don't have to pay the hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical costs. To be honest, even if I didn't have insurance I could pay it anyway it's not like I don't have the means.
When I woke up I was panicked and confused. Where was I? What happened?
"Thank the lord you've woken up, " mumbled the nurse in a thick Alabama accent.
"We nearly lost you there pumpkin."
I went to speak but was prevented by a tube in my throat."Don't try to speak. We have had to put a tube in to support your breathing. You had a collapsed lung. I wouldn't recommend moving too much we have had to do extensive surgery. The doctor will come and talk to you once she is out of surgery."
So no talking, well shit that's one of my main skills. Maybe, it will give me a chance to escape work and all the crazy.
They must have given me some crazy drugs because I had no clue what was going on, but I knew someone was talking and I seemed to take in the information. It was almost like being in a dream.
I went to sleep quite soon after that conversation. When I woke up there was a woman with dark hair and large glasses shining a light into my eyes for no apparent reason. A cold stethoscope hit my chest. It seemed old fashioned with the technology available now.
The numbness eventually wore off and a dull pain kicked in. The full level of pain was killed by morphine in copious amounts.
Over the coming days, I was visited by no one. Exactly as I wanted it. Finally, some peace. I have a button for when I need anything it's certainly different. Physiotherapy 2 times a day is less fun. My whole body ached. According to the doctor, it is a miracle I am alive. I lost nearly 2 litres of blood. Apparently, I had a 10% chance of survival just because of the blood loss. When you add in massive internal bleeding and a collapsed lung that percentage goes down significantly to less than 1%.
