Chapter 1:

-

Rose's POV:

-

I grab my keys and walk to my car. "Dad I'm going to the carnival!" I announce. "Be back in 3 hours! It's getting dark outside!" He replies with a loud, roaring holler. I walk out of the house and outside where the crisp cold air blows. I open my car door, hop inside, start the car, and drive to the carnival. My phone stats ringing. I pull over and check my phone to see who is calling. It's an unknown number. I press answer and hold the phone up to my ear. All I hear is breathing. "Hello?" I start the conversation. "Hey it's Sam. Your friend." Sam replies. She usually never answers my calls. "Are you going to the carnival?" She asks. "Um yeah what about you?" I respond.

"Yeah. Um I'm not going now. You are considered unpopular and I am very popular. So we can't be hanging out together anymore." She explains. "You are just like all the other people who wanted to be my friend. But they turned out to be bullies and I know you will be a bully too. I can feel it." I let out a shaky breath. "You were never a good friend anyway."

She replies.

-

Before she can say anything else, I hang up the phone and start driving again. I guess I am unpopular. I haven't made any real friends.

-

When I show up at the parking lot, I park my car and walk to the ticket booth to get a ticket. The man behind the counter looks bored out of his mind. His hair falling flat onto his head, uniform all baggy, dinky bowtie tied on crooked, and a frown plastered onto his face.  "One ticket please." I request. The man rolls his eyes and rips a little piece of paper off of a roll of them. "Five dollars." He says dryly. I trade him a five dollar bill for the ticket and I walk into the entrance of the carnival.
