I didn't realize I fell asleep in the car, but when I woke up this morning Jake was still driving. "Where are we?" He glanced at me but quickly focused back on the road. Looking outside I realized we weren't in New York anymore. "We are about to crossover into Ohio. Grab a snack from the back cause we aren't stopping for another hundred miles." I looked at him confused. "where are we going? Why did we leave our home? What's going on?" So many questions but none were answered. What is he hiding? The second day of knowing each other and he takes me from my home? What is going on? "I'll explain when we get to the hotel. Right now we just need to focus on getting away from the apartment as soon as possible. When we stop I will explain everything. I know we have only known each other for a short time and this is all a little sudden and I'm sorry." I don't know how to feel about all of this. It's a lot to handle.
About three hours later he finally stopped. He said in a hundred miles but that changed. We pulled into a hotel parking lot and he stopped. "I will go check us into a room. You stay here until I come get you." I nodded and he left. I got my phone out and called my friend June. "Hey girl what's up?" Sighing I looked out the window. "I'm in Ohio with my new roommate."
"Why?"
I shrugged acting like she could see me. "He won't tell me anything." I heard her gasp so I knew she focused on the fact that my new roommate is a guy. I've never even spoken more than three words to a guy let alone lived with one. "A man as your roommate? Tell me everything! Is he hot? What does he look like?" I chuckle. "Well for starters he is tall, he has dark brown hair and gorgeous blue eyes, he has a nice body and before you say anything he knocked on my door while he was shirtless last night and no nothing happened. From what I gathered so far he is sweet, caring, and well mannered but very mysterious. We kind of just up and left last night." I knew exactly what she was thinking before she said anything. "Sounds like a perfect man." I laughed harder this time. "He sure seems like it." I looked out the windshield and I saw Jake coming back to the car. "I got to go girl, I'll talk to you later." When I said that I hung up and unlocked the car for him.
"Alright we are all set let's go." I got out of the car and he grabbed our things and handed me the key. We got outside our room and I unlocked the door. When we walked in I closed the door then I realized something. There is only one bed. "So uh what is going on with sleeping arrangements?" He laughed and looked at me. What is he doing to say? "Well I was thinking we could share the bed." He's joking right? I gave him a look and he laughed again. "I am only kidding. As much as I find you attractive I barely know you. How do I know you won't kill me?" I looked at him and crossed my arms. He got the point. "So are you going to explain everything now?" He nodded and motioned for me to sit down.
"Okay so I haven't been completely honest with you. You see, I am new around New York but that's the only thing I've been honest about besides my mom teaching me how to cook. A couple months ago I was involved in an accident. I had a girlfriend, well at least I thought she was my girlfriend. She got me involved in some bad things and with a dangerous man. She convinced me to sell weapons that were illegal and smuggle them across the border into Mexico. After a while things got worse, she told me she used me the entire time and then she said I stole four million dollars which is not true. Now they are after me and I figured if I started a new life in New York they wouldn't e able to find me. But they have and now they are after me again, and now you. I'm so sorry, I didn't mean for any of this to happen." I stood up and walked around trying to comprehend everything he just told me. He was involved with illegal weapons and ow people are trying to find him? Why did I ever want a roommate? "So you're telling me since you got involved with illegal weapons and a felon for a girlfriend, now someone is after you and they are trying to kill you? And me?" He nodded but he looked so ashamed for everything.
"What are we going to do, Jake?" He stood up and came over to me. "Well, my plan at the moment is to get us far away from New York and as safe as possible. I know you don't want to leave your friends, family, and work, but we have no choice. I have a friend who can get us on a private plane but it will take a few days to get there. He lives in the middle of nowhere on the border of Arizona and California. Like I said I know you don't want to leave everything behind but in order to stay safe, it is something we have to do." I sat on the bed. "So in order to stay safe, I have to move across the world with a guy who got me into this mess. How do I know I can trust you?"
"Look, I know it is hard to trust me right now but I need you to believe me when I say I am trying to keep you safe. I know we have only known each other for a short amount of time, but I feel like I have known you forever. Probably because there is something else that I haven't told you." Oh boy what now? "I have been watching you Melissa. For about a month now. It was planned for us to meet." What the fuck? He's my stalker? "I know what you are thinking and I am sorry." I don't know what to think anymore.
"I am gonna go get pizza, what kind do you like?" I looked up at Jake. He wants to go get pizza after telling me all of that? "Come on Melissa, I know you are hungry and after we eat we can think better. What kind do you like?"
"Cheese, Pepperoni, and pepperoni with jalapeños."
"Okay, I will be back. Keep the door locked until I come back, okay?"
"Okay."
He left so I locked the door behind him. I got out my laptop and got on my doc for my book. So far I have had an interesting trip. The hottest most sweetest man I have ever seen is in danger and now I am sharing that with him. The title will be the hardest part but I think I can come up with something. I started writing, finally I came up with something to put on this page. My idea for the book is a romance. Small town girl meets high class man and things take a turn for the both of them.
After almost thirty minutes Jake came back with the pizza. "I got two just in case." He sat them on the table and opened them up. "Dig in." I went over and grabbed a plate and a napkin and put two slices of pizza on it. "You got pepperoni pizza with jalapeños?" He smiled and nodded. Maybe he isn't such a bad guy. "So, I started writing some stuff while you were gone."
"You did?"
"Yeah. Now that I have started writing I am feeling pretty good about it."
"Good."
After we finished eating I felt bloated. Six pieces of pizza probably wasn't the best idea but oh well. Jake went and got a shower and I sat on the bed with my laptop. I need to get as much writing done as possible before we take off again because I can't write unless I have WIFI. I started to think of a major point to focus on for the story, thinking of different ideas isn't the hard part it is the writing part that is difficult. I thought of something to write about but putting it into words is stumping me. It is going to be more of the cheesy romance love story everyone wants to read and the one everyone hopes for. Almost like a fairytale. But how? How do I turn this book into something everyone wants to read? That is the real question.
Jake finally got out of the shower so it was my turn. I grabbed a shirt and some shorts and went to the bathroom. "I am going to watch TV for a bit, I will sleep in the chair tonight and you can have the bed." I looked back at him. "No we can share the bed, it's okay. I don't mind." Did I just say that? What is wrong with me. "Are you sure? I don't mind sleeping in the chair." Shaking my head I leaned against the door frame. "I am sure. You are not sleeping in the chair. I insist on sharing the bed just as long as you aren't a blanket hog." He laughed and I went to get my shower. When I got out and put my clothes on, I walked back into the room and he was sound asleep with the TV quiet. I gently sat down on the bed next to him and grabbed my phone to text June.
Hey, just wanted to keep you informed on everything. We are safe and at a hotel for the night. We are sharing a bed but nothing is going to happen so don't even think anything. Is it bad I am falling for him? Anyways, just thought I would let you know. Goodnight.
