The next morning Jake woke me up at a gas station. "We are in Missouri." I sat up and looked around. Jake got out and went inside. I got out my phone to see where we were. Arrow Rock population 56. Damn, when he said small town he meant it. I closed out of my maps and texted June letting her know where we were and that I was safe.

Jake got in the car and started it. "We are heading to the warehouse which is five miles from here. When we get there I want you to stay in the car. Please?" Looking at him curiously I nodded. "Okay."

When we arrived he made me promise to stay in the car no matter what and I told him I would. I was scared being by myself in a place I've never been around people I barely know. When he got out I locked the doors and stayed put like I promised. After about fifteen minutes I started getting worried so I did the dumbest thing I possibly could, I got out of the car.

I walked slowly around to the entrance where I noticed Jake. He was standing a few feet away so he didn't see me but I could see everything and everyone perfectly. Hearing them was no problem at all. They were talking about the money and how Jake owed Elliot so much. I thought he came to get money and leave?

"Ah perfect. It's about time you decided to show up." I turned around and realized I was in big trouble. The man grabbed me by my arm and drug me inside. He threw me next to Jake but he caught me. He leaned over and whispered in my ear. "I thought I told you to stay in the car?" As soon as he said that the man who brought me in here laughed. " Why did you tell her that Jake? Is it because you don't want her to know the truth? Why you actually brought her here and why you just randomly showed up at her door?" I looked over at Jake. "What is he talking about Jake?"

The man laughed again. "Jake only showed up at your door because we have been watching your every move. You know that little friend of yours June? Yeah, her and Jake were together and she played him. We hired her to go after him for the money. She told us that you have something we want." At this point I was not only scared but I felt betrayed. How could they do this to me? I now know who this man is. Elliot. Just then, June walked up next to him and kissed him on the cheek.

"Thanks to June here, we have been able to track your every move. She put a tracking device on your phone Melissa." I looked at Jake and he looked ashamed. "What is it you want from me? My inheritance? You can have it." They all laughed after I said that, Jake stayed silent. "How exactly will you give it to us? It isn't like you have it on you."

Shaking my head I looked at June. "She knows everything about me right? She could tell you. I have told her everything and trusted her."

"That's not what I asked. How will you give it to us? Actually, ik how you will. I will send June with you and you will call your bank and have them wire it to a bank here. Then you will take it out and we will let you go. The both of you." Something told me not to trust him. Hell I can't even trust Jake at this point but it's my only hope to go start a new life.

June went with me to make my call, I didn't talk to her the whole time we were alone. I made the call and they were going to send it to a bank down here. So far so good. I have eight million dollars from five different relatives who had passed. My two aunts, a grandma, my mom, and my dad. Losing that money is horrible but if it saves me it's worth it. "There. It won't be here until morning but it's done." She nodded and we walked back. She whispered something in Elliots ear and he nodded.

He told us we aren't allowed to leave until they get the money so they put Jake and I in a room together and left us alone. I was looking for cameras but there were none. Then my eyes stopped on Jake who was looking at me.

"What the fuck do you want Jake?" He shifted on his feet and then looked at me again. I expected him to say something but he didn't. He just sat on the ground and stared at me. "I'm sorry Melissa. I really am. I didn't want any of this to happen." I scoffed and looked down at him. "You obviously wanted the money because why else would you have shown up at my door? I fucking trusted you and you betrayed me as well as the person who I thought was my friend. The both of you disgust me in so many ways. Not to mention you never wanted to mention your ex but now I know why. You were with June of all fucking people! So don't sit here and tell me you didn't want any of this to happen because of that was true you would have stayed out of my life and you wouldn't have let any of this happen."

He stood up and walked over to me. I backed away until I couldn't anymore, my back was pressed against the wall and he was close. Too close. "Melissa listen to me please. I know I broke your trust and you may not believe me but I do feel horrible. Yes it's true, in the beginning I was only in it for the money and I had planned to take you from New York and bring you here. That was my plan at first. Then after we were on the road for a while I began to regret every single decision I have made along the way. The group, June, and betraying you. When I first met you I took down every single paper you had up looking for a roommate so you couldn't talk to anyone else. I had to make sure you chose me and it worked. But now I look back on everything and I regret what I did. I know it is too late now but just know I'm sorry." I slipped away from him and found a chair folded in the corner. I unfolded it and sat down.

We were both silent for the longest time until he spoke up. "Melissa we need to get out of here and quickly. I have a plan and Ik you can't trust me anymore but I need you to trust me long enough to get you and I out of here." All I could do was look at him. The man who had betrayed me wanted me to trust him? After everything he has done? What in the hell is wrong with him? "Please Melissa." Sighing I stood up. "Fine. I will let you get me out of here but as soon as we are gone I don't want anything to do with you ever again. I want you out of my life." He hung is head and nodded. "I understand."

"So what's the plan Jake?" He looked at me and then looked around the room. There were a few boxes stacked up in the corner and he was walking over to them. "We will need to wait till morning because that's when the money will be wired down here. If Ik them well enough, they won't be here until ten which only gives us enough time to break open this door, get the money, and get out of here. Before you say anything I don't want a penny of the cash. I just want you safe. But I need to find something to break open the door with like a crowbar, an axe, or something like that. Maybe even something to just pick the lock. Will you help me look?" I nodded and went towards the boxes and opened one up. All I found were papers and packing tape. The next box consisted of  office supplies. Maybe I could find something that would help.

"I found paper clips."

"Good, let me see two." I handed him two and he went to the door, but instead of trying to pick the lock he put his ear up to the door. "They aren't gone yet, shit. We will have to give it another hour until we can try. When they are gone for the night I will try to open the door. If I can't get it open I will have to think of another way."

An hour later he started to try and get us out. He sat there for thirty minutes going through a whole box of paper clips to try and pick the lock. Nothing. He tried kicking open the door, that didn't work. Everything we had found in the boxes, we have tried but nothing worked. "We have to wait till they let us out in the morning. June will go with you to the bank. Tell the guards she kidnapped you and I will take care of the guys here. Trust me okay?"

I did not like the sound of that but I guess it is our only hope. We placed everything back in the boxes like they were so we didn't get caught. Now we had to wait until morning. The thought of going with June didn't sound good to me but I had to do it to help save the both of us. I hope this works.
