6 ~ Preperations

The next month flew by, it was surprisingly uneventful considering the first few days Harry and Draco had had. Draco had to help Harry prepare for some interviews but nothing really happened besides Goyle exploding his Pepperup Potion and causing Snape's ears to steam for the rest of that day.

It was the 28th of October, 3 days before halloween but only 1 before Draco's date with Harry. His dorm mates had become more okay with him lately and last week, in an attempt to gain their approval, Draco had decorated their dorm in Halloween decorations. He had hung cobwebs over the beds and paper chains of bats and pumpkins were hung up on the ceiling. And with the help of Dobby, he had decorated the common room one morning while everybody else was eating. The notice board was now laced with cobwebs, the ceiling hung with paper chains, the fireplace furnished with fake spiders (which Ron did not appreciate) and in the centre of the room, on a small round table, sat 3 large pumpkins full of sweets. To say that McGonagall and the rest of Gryffindor house were surprised when they found out Draco had done this was an understatement, but he had finally gained the respect of his peers.

Draco was a nervous wreck, he lay out his clothes at the end of his bed. He's spent weeks going back and forth through his trunk, choosing what clothes he wanted to wear and trying all his clothes on to see which ones made him look cutest. He had finally chosen out a pair of black skinny jeans and a white shirt which had a rainbow stitched onto the front. He didn't know why he was worrying so much, he was going to end up wearing a long coat and Gryffindor scarf over it all anyways - it was autumn after all. Draco tucked himself into bed, nauseous from nerves. He never knew this day would come and now it was so close, could he do it?

Six O'clock, Draco tiptoed out of the dormitory, picking up his clothes and a towel as he went. He stepped into the shower, cold water trickling down his back, making his hairs stand on end. Small droplets clinging to his skin, Draco stood naked and dripping wet in front of the mirror, running a comb through his soft blonde hair. Drying himself, he pulled on his clothes and slung the comb into his basket. The boys' bathroom wasn't particularly busy, not like the girls' with bags of makeup and boxes of moisturisers everywhere, but there was one thing in the boys' bathroom that was off limits to anybody except himself. A large wicker basket that sat on a shelf beside the mirror was Draco's, most of the only boys had a shampoo bottle and a toothbrush to their name, not him. His basket was full of skincare products and hair care kits, face masks and expensive shampoos, and hidden right at the bottom was a little bit of makeup. Nobody was allowed to touch the basket except him, it was an unspoken rule; the last boy who messed with it had his homework go missing every day for two weeks.

Draco stepped out of the steamy bathroom, hair slicked back, skin shining and cheeks rosy; strutting back over to his dorm room stairs, he didn't expect anybody to be in the common room this early.
"Looking good Malfoy". Draco nearly jumped out of his skin at these words. He spun around on his toes to find Hermione sat in an armchair, book in hand and Crookshanks curled up on her lap. "Today's the big date then huh" she asked, clearly knowing the answer. Draco nodded timidly, his cheeks becoming a deep shade of ruby. Hermione shovelled the cat onto the floor as she stood up, running over to Draco  and throwing her arms around his neck. She held him in a tight embrace for what felt like forever, when she let him go she spoke one last thing to him, "I know how much Harry means to you, and if you guys work out, don't ever let him go. Because all I want, all Ron wants, all anybody wants for you two, is happiness. It's still a little weird but it isn't about us.". And with that, Draco scurried off to the Great Hall for breakfast, ready for his date.
