I was walking with Connor out of our last class to lunch.

"Are you meeting Laura for lunch?" Connor ask me.

"Yeah I guess so." I shrug.

"You guess so?" He asks.

I look at him confused.

"Yeah?"

"You don't seem very excited about seeing your girlfriend." He tells me.

"Oh, no, I am."

"Are you sure about that?"

"Okay sometimes things get a bit.." I pause. I try and think of the right word. "I don't know the right word for it."

"Dull? Like you're going through a rough patch or something?" He asks.

"Yeah! Sometimes it's still okay. Like this morning she was talking to someone and I don't know the way she was was laughing it made me think nothing was wrong. Before that though, it couldn't of been worse. It was like we didn't even know each other." I tell me.

"Do you think it will get better or worse?" He asks.

"I don't know, when I remember all the good things I think how could I have ever doubted myself. But when it gets like earlier today..." I go quiet.

"You think you want to end it?" Connor asks unsure. I can tell what it was hopping he didn't hear me say.

"I really don't want to throw away what we have just because of a phase we are going through."

I see a look of relief wash over Connor's face.

Whatever happens I love Laura, and I think I always will. Even when we haven't spoken in days and it's weird between us and she does things that she knows annoys me, after all that I still love her. No matter what happens I can't seem to shake her off." I pause. "I don't know what to do about when we fight and when it seems like we barley know each other." I say softly.

Connor looks at me sympathetically. Connor like to joke around and everything but when it comes to things like this I know I can always count on him.

"Why no try taking her out on a date. Do something really romantic to remind each other of how much you love each other?"

(261)

"Hey I saw you making out with Laura this morning, I guess things are going well then?" Connor asks me.

"Uh yeah." I laugh awkwardly. "Things are going great."

"I'm just glad you finally asked her out so I don't have to listen to complain about how much you like her and how..." I don't let him finish his sentence.

"Okay, okay, I get it!"

"You know one day you will understand what it's like and unlike you I will be nice about it." I tell him.

"I'm pretty sure when I like a girl I don't wait like two months just to ask her out on a date."

"What about Jennifer?" I ask smugly.

"Okay that's not fair! It turns out she had a boyfriend anyway." He exclaims.

"She didn't when I told you to ask her out." I laugh.

Connor rolls his eyes.

"This isn't about me anyway. This is about you and Laura."

"What about me and Laura?" I ask.

"You think you two will last?"

"How can you ever tell? Who knows where we will be in a year, even three months? I do know that I love her and everything is going good. Everyday gets better and better and I find myself loving her more and more everyday so if that means we'll last then definitely."

(45)

"So you and Laura, huh?" Connor asks me excitedly.

"What?" I ask confused.

"I saw you talking this morning and then you hug, like a long hug..? Does this not ring a bell to you at all?"

"Oh that. That was nothing." I say getting annoyed thinking back to it.

"You sure, it looked like something."

"I'm pretty sure I know. I mean I was there." I say bitterly.

"Oh I just thought because Laura looked so happy and that hug.." I cut him off.

"I know what it looked like but it was nothing and I wished I never talked to her this morning!" I almost yell at him.

Connor looks taken back by my sudden anger.

"Sorry, I think she has got a boyfriend." I say quietly.

"Oh."

"One minute it seems like she's in to me then the next she's smiling bigger than I've ever seen her at her phone. And I don't think this is a regular friend texting her because I mean who gets that excited over a friend texting them." I tell him.

"I don't think she does though. I've never seen her with any other guys that look like they are more than friends."

"And I haven't heard any guy talk about her like that. I guess he could go to another school." I suggest.

I look over at Connor and he is staring off somewhere.

"Connor?" I ask.

I wave my hand in front of his face.

"I just remember something." He says completely ignoring me from earlier.

"I over heard some one talking about Laura and some mystery guy last Thursday after school."

I look down disappointed.

"So she does have a boyfriend." I say.

"Wait there's more. They didn't think she was dating him though because it was someone from this school but they never hang out at school apparently."

I guess that's good. But if a guy is hanging out with Laura then it's only a matter of time before they ask her out. Why wouldn't they? Have they seen her? Also how excited she got wasn't a good sign.
