Phil's POV

I started noticing something fishy going on straight away. When I woke up, I heard some laughter - Dan and Anna's. They were sat really close to each other and Dan was telling the story of how we got chased by a farmer and I got stuck in some mud. It was a pretty scary period of my life, to be honest. The farmer was really muscular, really fast and really, really angry. As the story came to a close, finishing with us getting away just in time (extremely inaccurate -  we got out of there in plenty of time), I cleared my throat.

"Right, we'd better be getting out of here."

Anna got up first, grabbing her bag.

"Food. Made any plans?" She asked, following me and Dan out into the open.

"There's a lake just north of here. We can get some fish there."

"But how? We don't have any equipment."

"We don't need equipment. Your boyfriend and I have done this before, I'm sure he'll teach you."

Dan blushed. He gave me a shove, nearly big enough to knock me off my feet. I just laughed.

"Hey, chill! It's nothing to be embarrassed about, You should be embarrassed that it's easy to tell when you fancy someone."

Dan was almost crimson now, partly with embarrassment but partly with anger. I just told him to calm down and he soon did. We walked, talking a little along the way. We approached the lake, instantly admiring its beauty. The three of us sat down. There was silence for a few minutes, but that was soon broken, much to my dismay.

Anna's POV

"How do you know exactly where we're going Phil? And how do you know exactly how to find everything and where everything is?" I asked.

Phil sat for a moment, clearly a question he didn't wany to answer. He hesitated, but spoke with quiet words.

"I've been on this route before. A few years prior to the war, I was playing with my friends. We were rounded up by some guys and sent off on a train. I was terrified. We all tried to get back to where we needed to be, but when we gto here we were just sent back again. We had noted down the route we took the second time we took it, but we were sent back again. That's when I met Dan. He came along with me at the start of the war, and by that time I'd memorised our route. Well, pretty much. Anyway, I'm just trying to get to where I started, really. Hope that answers your question."

Regret filled me. Phil struggled to hold back his tears, but eventually told us to start the fishing. Dan taught me what to do.

"Okay, you take this wire net thing and put it in the river. Then...It'd just be easier to show you."

Dan pulled out a wire net from his bag and gave an end to Phil. They lowered it into the shallow river. Luckily the net was just slightly taller than the river. After about a minute, the two got the bottom corners of the net and brought them to the surface, as if they were scooping ice cream. Fish laid on the net, moving on their sides. Phil just pierced a sharp stone into each one, spearing the life out of them.

~30 minutes later~

Our fish meal was lovely. We decided to head straight onward. We walked for hours, getting quite deep into conversation. Then, something happened. Maybe it was Karma, or maybe it was just the fact that love doesn't exist.
