A/N: This is my first story, so please rate fairly as my English level isn't really that good. Also if there are any typos that's cos I type at a million mph so sorry .-.

Warnings: Violence, suicide, vomit and mentions of murder and you might cry, I'm not like John Green so have tissues just in case ;)

I sat at the kitchen table. The radio played quietly as I plaited my sister's hair. The braid fell beautifully on her back. Just as I was finishing, Winstion Churchill's voice could be heard. My mother was drying dishes when she heard it.

"Turn it up, Anna! I must hear this!" she was so impatient sometimes.

I turned the volume up and we all stopped, staring at the radio. Churchill had already begun his speech, and he was wrapping it up.

"After much consideration, we have declared war. From this point forward, we are at war with Germany."

A dish came crashing out of my mother's hand as she ran to find my father. I heard crying from her as obviously my father would have to fight. I took my sister upstairs, as it was late, and we sleptwithout questioning the situation.

The next day, I woke up early, ready to have a bath. As I passed the door to my parents' room, I saw a strange red substance. Whimpers could be heard. Manly ones. The door creaked as my hand pressed against it. My other hand clasped my mouth as I ran up to my crying father and the bloody body that was before us. My 6 year old sister Millie came near the door rubbing her eyes. I ran up to her, shutting the door behind me.

"Where's Mummy?" she whimpered, close to tears.

"Mummy's gone to the clouds. She had to go because...because she knows we don't need her anymore. Millie, don't go into Mummy and Daddy's room, okay?"

"Why?"

Tears fell from her pastel face. My eyes began to fill up, too.

"Just don't. It'll make you cry."

I put my hand on her back and directed her to the kitchen. The static from the radio crackled in my ears. I began making some eggs on toast for myself, Millie and our grandparents. My father was too busy packing for war to eat.

~The Day of The Send-Off~

We waved my father goodbye, and before we knew it, he was gone with all of the other men with their lives in jeopardy. That night, the first sirens went off. My grandfather grabbed Millie and my grandmother opened the door to the bunker. We were all in when I remembered the photo. Mother's photo! I burst out of safety and back into the house. Searchlights blinded me and explosions shook the earth. I reached my bedroom and grabbed the photo. Ii tripped on the stairs, but sprinted back to the bunker. My grandfather had the door open, but it was then that the bomb hit...

Okay, how was that for the first chapter? I love you for reading this and please be nice about it, it'd help my confidence loads :) I'll try to upload asap but school starts soon so some chapters may be delayed. Hopefully this can be the start of a great story, so yeah, support is well appreciated <3
