I'm glad that your name ends with bery rather than bury,
for now I think I know why your poems are so oblique.
It's so the others do not seek, and as you quite rightly sow...
the others must not know. It might make them sad.
Your incomprehensibility makes perfect sense to me now
and though I don't have the who or the where,
I've part of the why and some of the how.
But I am not a canary and will not make a sound or keel over in the dark,
John Ashbery, before the minors find it's real -
and above ground ... not below.
