Was A Time
by sloanranger
We sit across the table,
our heavy mood forebodes,
we are no longer able,
to bear this heavy load.
So obvious that we don't care,
Kane-like in our silence,
so quiet in this deep despair,
remains of our alliance.
I seek solace outside,
lunch with friends instead;
you spend hours at your desk,
write books I'll never read.
Was a time, you came home,
my heart was oh, so glad.
Now you hide within in your room
and all I feel is sad.
Back to back we face away -
on each side of the bed.
Was a time not long ago
you clung to me instead.
Our empty nest is quiet,
the silence runs so deep.
Now I wish that you were gone,
and I escape in sleep.
Remember that we had a life,
maybe we still do;
remember that I loved you,
my love, I wish I knew....
