How Long

How long can we love, really I can't say –
one small moment – for a year - or just a day?
Will it last a lifetime, this lilt within our hearts?
Can we promise one another, love will not depart?
When times are rough, can we hold fast,
work so very hard, so that our love will last?
I know that for myself, and I promise you its true,
I'll do whatever it may be that I need to do –
to keep this blessed joy, alive and going strong,
my darling darling boy – for my whole life long.
