At the bar Shen Wei tried not to tighten up his shoulders and telegraph his annoyance as the human who stared at him salivating. With the clock ticking and his body not ever going respond to the advances, he had no choice but to be blunt. "I have a question for you."

"Yes," the woman purred and fluttered her eyelashes seductively

"Yes," the woman purred and fluttered her eyelashes seductively. "Whatever you want, the answer's yes."

"Not that kind of question." He smiled, hoping to draw the sting from his rejection. She really was a catch, and any vampire in the room would have his teeth in her neck in an instant. Well, almost any vampire in the room. "I need help finding someone."

"Oh." She straightened her posture and furrowed her brow. "Who?"

Grateful she was engaging in the conversation instead of walking away, Shen Wei let out a deep breath and shrugged. "I don't know, actually. That's part of the challenge."

She silently searched his face for a few beats and then the sultry half-lidded gaze turned serious. "I do like challenges. But if you need me to actually focus, we'd better find a seat at a table because teetering on this stool in a tight dress isn't as easy as it looks." She winked and stood up. "And buy me another drink."

The human was willing to help him. Shen Wei couldn't believe his luck. "Another Cosmo?"

"Make it a Whiskey." The human rested her forearms on the table. "Someone's been leaving you bags of blood for over a year and they haven't identified themselves or asked for anything in return."

"That's right."

"And there's nothing wrong with the blood, right? You guys can smell that kind of thing." Shen Wei blinked.

" How long have you been a vampire?"

" Twelve years"

She laughed and shook her head

She laughed and shook her head. "Seriously though, how is it you've been at this for so long and you don't know how to scent your food to make sure it's good?"

"The blood tasted good." He slid his hand into his pocket and fingered the glass vile he had brought with the idea that a sample could be useful if he found someone who knew what was going on. The mere thought of the liquid had him salivating. "Really good."

" You drank it? The woman sounded surprised.

" I did"

"Huh."

"What?"

"If it didn't smell or taste wrong to you, they must have done something to it or put an additive in it." She pressed her lips together and furrowed her brow in thought. " I am now curious and need to find out how come you can drink this blood. Vampires don't drink any foreign blood or any blood that has not been tested since it can be poisonous.

" Really"

"Only Pure blood and very old vampires can do this. You are 12 years into the turning. Anyway, since i am going to be the Holmes to your Sherlock, we should probably know each other's names." She held her hand out. "I'm Zhu Hong."

"Shen Wei " He shook her hand. "I appreciate your help, Zhu Hong."

"You don't have to thank me until we find some answers." She picked up her glass and drained it. "And when that happens, nothing says thank you better than jewelry."

Shen Wei threw his head back and laughed. He liked this human. "How about a drink for now?" "I suppose that'll do." Her voice was put out but her eyes twinkled with humor.

Two days later, Zhu Hong texted Shen Wei so that they can meet at the same bar. As he walked in he saw her sitting next to another Vampire

"Right on time," Zhu Hong said. "Shen Wei this is Sang Zan." She pointed in the direction of the man sitting beside her. Sang Zan looked several years younger than Shen Wei , but there was a formal quality to his voice that made him sound over a century older than that.

"I have had your case.A Vampire receiving bagged blood?" he said disgustedly. "No. What would be the point of such a thing?"

"That's what we're trying to figure out." Shen Wei retrieved the glass vile he had tucked in his pocket and held it up.

Shen Wei put the vial in Sang Zan's hand who looked the vial over and then began unscrewing the lid. Before he got it open, his entire face scrunched up and he reared away from it. "Does it always smell this bad?"

Confused, Shen Wei leaned forward and inhaled. The familiar scent of cedar, sage, and fresh soil curled through him comfortingly. "It always smells like that."

"Fuck why does this scent sound familiar?/." He thrust his hand toward Shen Wei, returning the vial. " Throw away this blood"

" But I have drank it for the past one month"

" What? You must," Sang Zan insisted. He tilted his head toward the vial. "That's shifter blood. This is Werewolf blood. And for Vampires, Werewolf blood is poisonous."

Zhu Hong and Shen Wei both gasped, though Shen Wei suspected the basis for their reactions was vastly different. She likely agreed with Sang Zan that someone was trying to kill him. But he knew the blood he had been receiving was the furthest thing possible from poisonous, or at least the furthest thing from poisonous to him. There was only one possible reason for that.

He now knew who was giving him the blood so he stopped asking questions and went home.
