The next day Yunlan pulled into a parking spot in front of what he hoped would soon be the Packs office as he talked on phone. "I'll try to stop by after this meeting, Dad.

"Is everything all right?"

"Yeah. It wasn't anything bad." He played a mental slideshow of his time with Shen Wei . The gentle touches, the comfortable conversations, the passionate kisses, and, of course, the moment when he finally tied and bit his true mate. "It was good. Really good."

His father's cough snapped him to attention. "Yunlan, honey, I know you've been waiting a long time for your true mate, and I'm thrilled he's finally with you.

"What'd I say?"

"It's not so much what you said, but the way you said it." He laughed. "From the tone in your voice, I take it you've mated with him. When will you be introducing him to the family?"

" Why do i need to introduce him to the family? You all know him."

He looked through the windshield and saw at least two dozen bodies inside. The conversion of abandoned shops into a space the pack could share for meetings and activities had been his first project when he'd stepped in as pack Alpha. Once the community center was finished, pack members would have a place to connect and come together, which would benefit the entire pack. Yunlan counted that as a success.

"I do have to go"

" And, Yunla? Be careful."

He stepped out of the car, pocketed his phone, and ran his fingers through his shower-damp hair. He would have preferred to have been the first to arrive, but that would have required skipping the shower and Yunlan couldn't do that. Not today. When his pack smelled Shen Wei on him, they needed to know he hadn't merely come in contact with a vampire. There couldn't be even a second of misunderstanding or doubt that what they were smelling was him. Once they realized his scent was joined with Shen Wei 's, they wouldn't be able to reject the truth of their Alpha's true mate.

After taking a final calming breath, he put a warm smile on his face, pushed open the no-longer-dusty glass doors, and walked inside. "Good morning, everyone."

The groups of chatting shifters quieted, turned to him, and returned his greeting. He both saw and heard the moment they realized something was different. The happy "Good morning, Alpha" welcomes tapered off mid-word, jovial expressions fell from faces, foreheads creased, and heads titled to the side in confusion.

The first person to move past staring and murmuring and address the elephant in the room—or more accurately, the vampire not in the room—was Guo Chang Cheng
