THROWING her keys into the ceramic bowl which housed the random keys found around her apartment, Evelyn sighed looking at the clock hoping she would have time to waste before going on the blind date that Tom had set her up for. Unfortunately, she didn't.
Kicking off her shoes she went into her kitchen to fix together something small for her to eat while getting ready. She didn't really know what she was supposed to wear to this date, was she supposed to dress up fancy or not? no one told her where she was going with this guy. Dating wasn't something that was her main priority, work was. In reality, dating would mess up her schedule. She spent most of her days in the studio trying to finish paintings or doing final edits of photographs that needed sending off to her clients. The last time she went on an actual date was when she was with Owen. Owen was someone who doesn't get mentioned between the members of Evelyn's friendship group, though Owen was once a part of it.
Evelyn met Owen when she first came to England; they both worked in the same gallery and he introduced her to the rest of the group. They all got on well and Evelyn and Owen got closer the more they spent time together.
The pair ended up dating for around two years but it all came crashing down when Owen started to act differently towards Evelyn he became angrier and stricter. He would stop her from meeting certain friends that he hadn't met before just in case they were other guys. He also became controlling over the clothes she wore. She wasn't allowed to leave the house wearing clothes that showed too much skin and if he didn't like the outfit she would have to change it.
Everyone noticed the difference in the way she acted and advised her to leave him but they never knew how hard that actually was. Every time she would try to leave him he wouldn't let her and he would start acting nice again until he knew that she wasn't going to leave. The only way she was able to end the relationship was by leaving when Owen was out at work and she filed for a restraining order.
Once she had left she told the rest of the friendship group everything that happened, especially the things that she had to keep to herself. She just let it all out one night and Owen ended up leaving England and going to work somewhere in America.
Walking into her bedroom Evelyn picks up her phone and facetime the one person she knew would help give her advice on what to wear. Julia.
"Hey, Jules, look I have this blind date thing that Tom set up and I need your help with what to wear," Evelyn stared down at the phone. "This is the state that I left my bedroom in this morning before leaving for work." she held up her phone so that Julia could see the piles of clothes sprawled out across the floor of Evelyn's bedroom. From the other side of the phone, Julia could only see the frustrated look plastered across the girl's face.
Julia was currently lying across her bed wrapped up in her cream blanket with a pale blue face mask on. In the background, you could faintly hear The Vampire Diaries playing from her laptop which she was previously watching. The Vampire Diaries were something Julia and Evelyn watched on repeat constantly, but when they were apart Julia would typically watch The Office whereas with Evelyn she would watch Gossip Girl. This is where code yellow originated from. Yellow wasn't the first choice of the name, many of the first ideas consisted of Sebastian's name but they found that that would've been far too obvious. The yellow originally came from the colour shirt Evelyn was wearing that day.
"Evie, you don't need to worry, your fashion sense is so good even when you don't try. What would you normally wear when going out for food?" Julia was walking out of her bedroom towards her kitchen while focusing on Evelyn.
"It depends on who I'm going out with, should I just wear this?" She held a small black dress in her hand. Evelyn loved this dress, it showed off her figure and gave her the confidence boost she normally needed when going on to meet people. It wasn't one she wore a lot though she considered it a special dress and would only wear it when she thought the occasion was special.
