​

​I stared down at Kat as she slept on the couch beside me. Her head was resting on my lap. One hand under her head, the other under mine on her stomach. I stroked her hair back from her face as I smiled. I'm going to be a dad. We have to tell everyone. Mum, Dad and Mikey first. I grab my phone and call mum.

​Mum: "Gerard, honey. So good to hear from you."

​Me: "Hey, mum. How are you and Dad?"

​Mum: "Really well. Missing you and Mikey though."

​Me: "I have something to tell you."

​Mum: "What is it, honey?"

​Me: "I'm getting married."

​Mum: "Oh my god. Who is she? Where's she from? What's she like? How long have you been seeing her? Why didn't you tell us sooner?"

​I laughed at her excitement. I guess it's because she never thought I'd ever get married.

​Me: "Calm down, mum. They'll be plenty of time for questions when you come for a visit?"

​Mum: "You want us to come visit you? When?"

​Me: "As soon as you can?"

​Mum: "That would be great. I'll put your Dad on so you can sort it between you."

​I hear shuffling as mum passes the phone to Dad.

​Dad: "Hey, son. We can be there tomorrow if you want."

​Me: "That would be brilliant. I miss you guys so much."

​Dad: "We miss you too. I know your busy, but I wish you'd call more."

​Me: "I know. I'm sorry. I was going to call a few weeks ago but Kat was..."

​Dad: "Was what, son?"

​I bit my lip.

​Me: "She was...raped."

​Dad: "Kat's your fiancé?"

​Me: "Yeah. Kathryn Kassis."

​Dad: "I'm so sorry. How's she doing now?"

​Me: "Mikey arranged a two week holiday in a cabin by a small town called Comfort. The guys and their wives joined us. Along with Kat's friend from the UK. She had a few nightmares. But she's strong, Dad. She's fought the fear because she wants to concentrate on us. She hasn't let it stop her. She's the most amazing person I've ever met. Everyone loves her. Mikey already calls her his sister. Even her friend from the UK moved over here with her boyfriend to be here for her. You'll love her too, Dad. I guarantee it."

​Dad: "Wow. You really do love her."

​Me: "I do. She means the world to me."

​Dad: "If she's made you this happy, I already love her."

​I smile. My family is amazing. I love them all so much.

​Me: "Thanks, Dad. I love you guys."

​Dad: "Love you too, Gerard. We'll see you tomorrow."

​Me: "I can't wait to see you."

​Dad: "The feelings mutual. Bye, son."

​Me: "Bye, Dad. Say bye to mum for me."

​I hung up then phoned Mikey. My eyes stayed on Kat.

​Mikey: "Yo, bruv. What's up? Is Kat okay?"

​Me: "She's fine. I want to invite you and Alicia over tomorrow."

​Mikey: "Sure. What's up?"

​Me: "Mum and Dad are coming over for a visit. I would like the whole family to spend some time together."

​Mikey: "Finally introducing Kat to them?"

​Me: "Yep. I thought it was the right time."

​Mikey: "We'll be there."

​Me: "Thanks, bruv."

​Mikey: "Bout eleven okay?"
