"Guards, leave us," Adam ordered as he walked into Magge's chambers. The guards bowed and disappeared outside the room. "I have ignored you long enough. You have brought trouble by coming here, trouble that is highly unwelcome. Now tell me, what information do you withhold that could mean my life?"
Magge flashed a challenging smile as she said, "Trouble in paradise? I have noticed your mistress has been quite angry with you since my arrival. It brings me much pleasure."
"I won't say it again, Magge. Hazel is not my mistress. You've came closer to earning that title than she has. Now, I'm not playing games. As your king, I command you to tell me what you know."
Magge quickly frowned and yelled, "Like I give a damn if you are King! Your order over me is shot to hell don't you think? Look, find me a nobleman that I can marry and I'll give you my proposition. If you fail to do so, I can assure you by the next century your country will be dead."
Adam yelled back, "You think I have time to find you a husband? I have a damn war to win, Magge! I do not have the time or patience to play matchmaker with the peasants! You mean nothing to me, okay? You were nothing more to me than a whore when I met you. And yes, that makes me a selfish, arrogant ass, but I've grown up and it's time you do the same. Take a damn cow to bribe yourself a husband. Take ten. I do not care, just leave."
"You haven't grown up! It was your ignorance that created the war! I did not come here for a cow. You will give me what I want, and in return I will give you information that could mean saving your country. I've spent time with a seer while I've been shunned thanks to you. You are a fool not to accept, not that I would expect higher of you."
"Look," he growled. "You know nothing of being a king and I will not have you telling me how to run this country. I may be a great fool in failing at my job, but do you know what your job is? It is to be a lady and acquire a husband! Every other lady in the kingdom has managed their jobs without threatening the King except for you, so do you know what that makes you? A failure. A fool. Just like me. You are no better than I, I hate to inform you."
"I beg your pardon, Your Majesty." Petrus walked into the room and bowed under Adam's presence. "I have been sent to accompany you."
Magge frowned as Adam turned to face Petrus. "Who has sent you to accompany me? Can you not see that I am in the middle of something?"
"I have been sent by the Princess Hazel. You are wanted in the Great Room, Your Majesty. Please, my sincerest of apologies for interrupting."
"Petrus, allow me a few moments. I will notify you when I am ready," Adam said, turning back around to Magge.
"No," this was clearly Hazel's voice. Every day, it was clear she grew more and more accustomed to the lifestyle in which she had been stuck. And every day, she became more demanding. Adam would be lying to himself if he said he didn't find it attractive in the least. Hazel pushed past Petrus and ignored Magge, walking straight up to Adam's face. "You will go with him now. Magge and I will follow just shortly. Do not argue on this with me, for you will want to see with your own eyes what I have done. And for that I am sure."
