The two humans intently stared at the angel, scrutiny of her appearance and any possible reason why she has the small child is their top priority. Jack quietly scanned the angel with his visor that was implanted in his optic nerve, reading coded data ranging from her name to the type of angel. Anti was shuffling around the room, patiently awaiting his partner's conclusion, with his automaton arm ready to spring into action from his shoulder blade. The arm was made of Tungsten steel and it takes less for 2.5 x 10 3 seconds for it to activate, it is also magically enhanced so it can attack creatures like Cabrena.
Jack tried to analyze the child, but the only information he got was that he is a human and his been living for less than a week. Limiting his choices down to two options, Jack weighed his options and straightened his back. Brushing his white lab coat, Jack as calmly as possible asks the distressed angel.
"Where did you find that child, because I don't think he belongs to you?". The question hangs in the air like it will drop on the next person who speaks. Cabrena hesitates to answer, watching Mark's bubbly face relax in her arms clinging to her with all his might.
"His name is Mark Edward Fischbach. He was born a couple of days ago, to a couple of humans who were captured by vampires. Mark was handed to me by his father, Clifton, who entrusted me to care for him as long as I live." Salty tears were streaming down her face as her tone dropped solemnly. "Please don't take him away from me, he is the only one left, I can't leave him alone, I promised!" Her voice rose in volume as sobs racked her bruised body, grief over took her as the events, that happened not so long ago, were crushing her mind under their weight.
Mark was currently on the verge of crying waterfalls of salty tears, his nose was dropping snot and his eyes were wide and watery. Quietly whimpering, Mark's big doe eyes were swimming in tears as he silently sobbed at the angel, crying with her like it would stop her from shedding any more water from her tearducts.
Small, dark, and brown curls of hair were sticking to his head, while the tears were staining Mark's cheeks in a never-ending stream of sadness. Ravenously growling, Mark's stomach loudly announced its displeasure in the lack of food that the child has been getting. His silent sobs gradually turned into screams of pain from the overwhelming amount of hunger crashing down on the poor child. Tears clooged his eyes and his body was softly trembling from the pressure in his swaddled abdomen, he flailed his chubby arms pushing the grey, wool blanket away.
Cabrena immediately stopped crying, steadily rocking with the child in her bruised up arms. Panicking internally she tried everything she could think of, realizing that she can't feed him. Being an angel there is no necessity for females to give birth or lactate since angels can live up to thousands of years, in conclusion she couldn't feed Mark because of her species lack of child bearing abilities. She looked up at the two human scientists, desperation covering her eyes with a thin layer of watery tears.
Jack offered to hold the sobbing child, rocking him slowly in his arms and cooing sweet nothings in his ears. Racking his brain for any helpful information, his scanner suddenly clicked attracting his attention. Data flowed through his retinas: absorbing the 1s and 0s that were feeding him information, like a mother nourishing its young one. Texts full of scientific knowledge flowed through his head, committing to memory all the vital intel.
Jack announced mournfully what Cabrena already knew.
"We can't feed him, since you can't lactate and both me and Anti are male. It seems that we have no options and Mark will die from starvation." The atmosphere dropped as the adults watched the starved child cry in pain, with nothing they can do to help him. Cabrena's sniffles mixed with the infants cries as she held tightly onto Mark, praying to her fellow angels to help this poor child. Alas, no one answered the disheartened angels calls, screaming to the heavens with all her might.
"Please, save him!! He doesn't deserve to die! I'll do anything, just help him survive! I can't let him die I promised to his father that I will protect him!" her voice cracked as her sniffles and sobs muffled her plead.
Jack shed tears at the mournful scene, wishing he could do more to help the small infant. Anti mumbled to himself trying to come up with a solution, until it hit him... An idea came to mind, it was dangerous, it could fail, but they had to try.
"What if we were able to transform an angel into a human?" Anti spoke his mind, trying to be as calm as possible. "What if we could change Cabrena into a human female that would theoretically allow her to lactate, right?" Everyone quieted down to hear Anti's idea (except Mark), they held their breathes in anticipation of this supposed solution. "Me and Jack have a machine that should change an angel into a human and vice-versa, however the machine has not yet been tested on a living subject and it could be potentially harmful" Anti warned solemnly, aware of the chance that it might not work or that either Cabrena or Mark could die.
Wildly spinning thoughts jumped through her mind, yet only one was loud enough to be heard in the cacophony of thoughts. She made up her mind even though she feared the consequences of her decision. She knew there was a possibility of dying or for Mark to die in the process, but she knew that if she did nothing Mark would starve. Furthermore, if the experiment worked Mark could become a hybrid and have the abilities to defend himself. With every ounce of courage and with every part of her beating heart, she cleared her throat and stated to the two humans her decision.
"I want to save Mark, I can't fathom the idea of Mark dying because I did nothing. I don't care if I die, all I want is to at least try to save him. I agree to be part of this experiment and to give my powers to Mark if possible!"
