After a couple of days of well-deserved rest, Evelyn headed over to Green Gables to help Anne and Ruby bake biscuits and scones to take to the builders who'd started working to restore Ruby's house. Anne hadn't mentioned what had brought this idea to light, but she suspected it had something to do with cheering Ruby up by playing along with her crush on Gilbert. She was certain if Gilbert wasn't working on the house, Ruby would have no desire to bake for the other builders.

Evelyn didn't particularly mind for she knew Ruby was going through a rather difficult time and, as her friend, Evelyn wanted to do all that she could to remedy Ruby's troubles. That was why she'd decide to donate one of her dresses to Ruby, knowing she would have lost all of hers to the fire. It was a delicate baby pink colour with coral ribbons and the most splendid puff sleeves. Harold had bought it for her a few months before whilst he'd visited Charlotte town, but the two siblings had both agreed that at present, Ruby's needs were far greater than hers.

The door swung open before she could knock, her fist hovering in the air in front of it. Anne smiled widely at Evelyn, grabbing her arm and dragging her inside straight away. She laughed, greeting Ruby as she took off her coat, the dress she'd brought for Ruby awkwardly balanced on her arm.

"Ruby," She called, gaining the girls' attention. "I brought you this. I hope the colour is alright, you always look so lovely in pink." Ruby squealed excitedly as she ran over to Evelyn, throwing her arms around her in glee.

"Oh, Evelyn, thank you, thank you, thank you!" Ruby chorused, taking the dress from Evelyn's arms and holding it up to her short frame. As luck would have it, Evelyn and Ruby were fairly similar in size so it would surely fit. Ruby stroked the frills around the hem, her smile wide. "It's so lovely, how can I thank you?"

"You can thank me by helping me make these biscuits! I'm famished." Evelyn cried dramatically, and the three laughing girls got to work at once. Before long, they'd baked an array of biscuits, scones, and bread for the builders to enjoy. Evelyn was just finishing up putting a jar of jam and clotted cream into the basket with the scones when Ruby asked Anne and Evelyn how she should decorate the biscuits. She was definitely more dependent on Evelyn's opinion for she knew Gilbert best out of anyone. "Gilbert really loves chocolate. Perhaps you might like to melt some and half dip the biscuits in it?"

"That sounds delicious! What a great idea, Evelyn!" Anne exclaimed, making Evelyn blush for she wasn't very good at taking compliments.

Once everything was ready, the girls made their way to Ruby's house. As they walked down the path leading out of Green Gables, Evelyn spotted Jerry raking the hay inside the barn and sent him a friendly wave as they made eye contact. She suppressed a giggle as Jerry, who became rather clumsy in the presence of girls, fumbled with the rake, dropping it into a pile of hay. So as not to embarrass him, she decided to keep walking, shaking her head humorously.

It didn't take them too long to reach Ruby's. The thick trees of the woods thinned out to reveal the bustling building sight, men of all ages mulling around. They offered everyone they passed items from their baskets which were taken gratefully.

"Afternoon, Minister. We're learning to bake. Care for a scone?" Evelyn asked sweetly in the way the people always adored. The Minister paused, pursing his lips as he reached into the basket for a scone.

"Well, don't mind if I do. This is some heavy work." He mused, taking a bite of the scone. "Delicious!" He looked back at Evelyn. "Your brothers have been doing some fine work, young lady. Be sure to check how they're getting on."

"Of course, Minister." Evelyn promised, bidding him farewell before rejoining Anne and Ruby. She spotted her best friend on the top of the roof, accompanied by Billy Andrews. She nudged her friend, pointing up at the roof. "Ruby, look. It's Gilbert."
