My feet collided against the cold cobblestone, puddles splashing up the sides of my black Mary Janes. Cold, smoke-filled wind blew against my face, forcing me to walk slower than intended to. Even the wooly coat that was wrapped around my figure couldn't stop me from shriving

Speeding up, Miss Sparrow's words rang in my ears as my eyes grazed the sea of heads.

I'm relying on you two, so is Miss Peregrine, and so is her wards. Her voice was soft as butter. I know you and James are quite capable of retrieving them for me. A letter was sent a few days ago. I've only received it recently. It's from Addison. He says Miss Peregrines and her wards were forced to abandon their loop. Unfortunately she was struck and now is stuck as a bird. Her and the children are in grave danger. So please, get them to me as quickly as you can.

"Why me?" I mumbled out loud to myself, quiet enough so James couldn't hear. A few strangers threw a few glares at me, reminding me to only think in my head.

I continued with my line of thoughts.

I mean James, yeah, he's a suck up so of course he would agree to do it, but me? I turned my head over to my left to let my thoughts out to James, but he wasn't there.

"Where the hell did he go? I swear to the birds above he was beside me a few seconds ago." I mumbled under my breath. I quickly started conjuring up some sad sob story I would be forced to tell Miss Sparrow when I found him turned inside out because of some hollow.

Minutes passed since I've noticed James' disappearance. At first I barely gave it any mind. I just assumed he was pulling a prank of some sort. But after minute after minute rolled by I started to worry a bit. Panicked I picked up my pace and franticly whipped my head around. But common sense took over.

He wasn't a child. Far beyond that actually. He's 17 for crying out loud. I was sure he was capable of finding his own way home. I I really had enough of his shenanigans.  And anyway, I had my priorities set straight. Find Miss Peregrine and her peculiar children.

Hours passed by and I almost felt like giving up. My feet were sore and my back ached. My legs felt like jelly At any minute someone could brush past me and I would simply disintegrate.

I was about to head back to the loop and leave James to get eaten alive until I heard a little girl say something out of the ordinary.

" Olive can you please light a wee little fire with your hands, I'm ever so cold!" A little girl cried.

"Hush now Claire, you can't be going around saying stuff like that. We can't have normals over hearing anything. Or anyone else for that matter..." The girl with bright red hair replied.

I silently celebrated and sighed with an air of relief. Looks like I finally found what I needed.

I followed the group of kids at a distance until I felt ready to go up to them. I was trailing after them for a while. A few times passed when one of them would glance over their shoulder then whisper to their peer, most likely about me.

They probably think I'm a wight.

I couldn't waste anymore time so I decided to just do it and go straight in.

"Hey!" I shouted as nicely as possible. A few of them turned around and a few keep their heads forward.

"Yes you guys, hey!" I shouted again. Soon enough they all started running, so naturally I ran after them.

Yep, this totally didn't feel creepy at all.

We ran through a few alleyways and parking lots, or what was left of them. Debris of concrete and other various materials made it hard for me to run, but it looked like it did for them too.

"Please," I tried shouting after them. "I know what you think I am and I promise I'm not a wight!".

Just after I finished my sentence I seemingly cornered them against a brick wall.

"How can we trust you? How can we know for sure?" A girl with large hazel eyes shouted back at me.

"Here," I pulled out a letter from the pocket of my petticoat.

" My ymbryne, Miss Sparrow, received a letter from someone you may know. His name is Addison. I was told your ymbryne Miss Peregrine was in serious need of help so I was sent along to fetch all of you. Of course I wasn't the only one who was sent but it seems I have lost him while looking for all of you."

I paused to regain my breath. I was about to speak again until a pile of bricks went flying right in front of my eyes.

"HOLLOWS!" One of the kids screamed.

"RUN!"
