y/n placed new hair brushes back on the metal bar as she nodded her head toward the music that was playing in her ear. so far, her day was going good; gemma had gotten her starbucks and chick-fil-a for breakfast and lunch. their boss had given the two a weekend off since y/n and gemma had worked most of the week.
though the two loathed their boss, they knew they were happy with him instead of the old one.
she gazed down at her feet, pain slowly entered her toes. usually, she would've been gone by ten and home by eleven. but, it was now turning twelve thirty in the morning and she still hadn't been home yet. it was only because she had told sage she could've worked a few more hours for some money that she needed.
pausing her music, she gaped down the aisle she was in and noticed a guy looking at nail polish. she didn't mind, but she could tell he was unsure about what color he wanted.
continuing to put hair and face essentials back on the shelves, y/n kept glancing down at him every couple of minutes to see if he needed help. she didn't know why, but she felt as if she couldn't ask if he needed help herself. she wanted him to ask for help first.
"um, excuse me," the boy said shyly, his green orbs seeming as if all he wanted to do was shower her in love and flower petals. "hi, um... i don't know what color to get or what color looks good on me, actually. could you help me, please?"
y/n smiled and nodded, dropping the essentials in her hands on the floor. she took the two nail polishes out of hands and placed the glass bottle near his fingers. white made his fingers look as if they were a babies hand, but black and light grey made his fingers look gorgeous.
she glanced up at him and blushed once she noticed he had been gazing down at her the entire time she was holding his hand. she placed the white back where it went and almost shoved the black and light grey in his grasp. "those colors look really nice on you," she intoned. "but there's other colors i can help you with if you don't want those ones."
"no thank you, you're help was amazing though," he beamed.
y/n just nodded, not knowing what else to say. cute boys had always made her nervous, she thought that was why she didn't really date anyone because of her nervousness and shyness. she turned on her heals and ambled back to what she was doing, restocking face and hair essentials in the aisle.
the boy took a step out of the aisle and stopped, weighing his options before sauntering back over to y/n. "i just wanted to tell you, you're very beautiful," he told. she whipped her head up at him. "like damn, i guess i found out who stole all the pretty from heaven."
"really?" she pouted.
"hell yeah— wait... have you—"
"hey!" gemma came rounding the corner to y/n. "boss told me to switch places with you since it's been over thirty minutes and you're still not finished."
"oh, okay." y/n looked back over at the guy, sending him a friendly smile before sauntering to the back.
"wait, what's your name?" he hollered before she reached around the corner.
"y/n, yours?"
"oscar."
