3. Why can't I just stay home?

The trees were passing by, forming a non-ending blurry landscape on the side of the road. Some hints of red could be perceived under the thick coat of green leaves, spring was on its way. I sighed, turning my head away from the window. I've been sitting in this car for about 3 hours already and started to regret not eating that extra toast on the plate. My cellphone was somewhere in my backpack, but I was too lazy to take it out, which resulted in the extreme boredom I was feeling now.

"Are we there yet?" I found myself asking, just like what a 10 years old child would do.

"Just a couple of hours left" answered Willow, the driver.

"Huh?!" Lilith exclaimed, waking up from her nap.

"I was joking! Willow laughed, we'll be there in 20 minutes"

"Oh god you scared me! Jokes are supposed to be funny..."my aunt mumbled.

The twenty minutes passed relatively quickly. Before I knew it, I was standing in front of a majestic door surrounded with four beautiful crying willows... in the middle of nowhere.

"That should be the portal" I said, pointing at the enormous thing.

"Woahh! So big!" a little voice blurted out.

I turned around to see Aziel, Willow's twelve-year-old son. He had been sleeping during the whole trip, so I forgot he was with us. The boy was the only child of our driver. He will be staying with us in the USA until he becomes old enough to live on his own.

"Yeah it is, we should probably cross it now, it's going to get dark pretty soon" replied Lilith with a tint of excitement in her eyes. "Let's begin the journey!" She then disappeared behind the veil.

"Wait, what? Did she just cross to the other side?" I was really confused.

"Well obviously...Duh!" Aziel answered just before vanishing into the other side as well.

"Hey Azy! Wait!" His mother shouted, hurrying through the portal to catch up.

Great! Now I was alone, standing in front of the purple thing. I carefully stretched my foot so that it went through the mist forming the portal. After telling myself at least a thousand times (or at least that's what it felt like) that it was safe and I wouldn't die, I casually waltzed through it. You know, to look cool.

"What the heck were you doing there?! Taking a nap?" Lilith wasn't the most patient person."

"Yup! And starting my own fashion show." I teased her.

I looked around. Nothing. Nothing in front, nothing behind. Yeah you get it. We were in the middle of nowhere. Wait, no, scratch that. There is a road on the side! I don't think I've ever been so happy just by seeing an asphalt path. It's a great feeling, you should try.

So yeah, back to the road. Some random limo was now pulling up besides and a tall man got out with an umbrella. I was judging him until I felt a drop on my neck; more precisely the one announcing the beginning of a storm. Heh, I listened enough in class to know this, I'm so smart.

"Is that guy here for us?"

"No, he's here for the squirrel" Lilith must have found herself very funny, because she was the only one laughing.

I was going to ask her to clarify but then the man answered my question himself.

"Hello, my name is Timothy, I'm the butler chosen by Irene. Please enter the car." He opened the door and directed us in.
