Chapter 12: Andrew

Zeke remembers everything now. The words written inside the van, the type of guns they carried and that they drugged him. It was GEN. It had been years since they’ve interrupted our lives and just as we began to let our guard down those lunatics attack again. Zeke was able to escape which still surprises me. I push the though out of my mind. I should just be happy that Zeke is alive and recovering. I haven't killed in a while but God knows if Zeke didn't escape then I would have someone’s blood on my hands before the next day.

“What are you thinking about?” Jet’s voice says and carries me out of my own dark thoughts.

“Killing.” I say with a blank expression on my face. There’s no use in lying to him. He knows I’ve done it before. I loved it.

“Well that’s never good. You haven't done any of that gruesome stuff for years now so why the sudden thoughts?” Jet asks as he shift in his spot on the old chair next to me. His silver laptop is now close and his undivided attention is in my hands which is something that hardly ever happens. I sit up and face him, inhaling deeply.

“What happened to Zeke. I’m just thing about what would happen if he didn’t escape.”

“Then we’d be on our way to break the kid out of wherever he would have been taken. We’re all a team and we have each others backs. Nothing bad is ever going to happen to you guys. Got it?” He tells me. His words are met to comfort me but instead, they spark something in me. I stare at him for a moment, studying his green eyes that are almost always over looked by the intimidating structure of his face. I narrow my own eyes at him.

“Don’t lie. You cannot just tell me that nothing bad is ever going to happen. We are dirt poor runaways. And to top it off, all of us are experiments that the government is trying to find so they can probably exterminate us. Get rid of their mistake. Jet, something bad is always going to happen to people like us.” I tell him strictly and rise to my feet, placing pressure on my healed ankle.

Jet gets up to and grabs my shoulder. “I’m just trying to give you hope Andrew. I’m not trying to lie to you.”

“Hope?” I question. “Hope?” I repeat again. “If you look me up on your police system then you’ll see that I’m labeled as a criminal, a murder and a mentally unstable adolescent. I’ve given up on hope years ago.” I say and grab his hand, yanking it off my skin.

“You weren't always like this. I’m sure of that.” Jet says but his voice remains calm in contrast to mine. “You we’re such a hopeful kid and always saw the best in people. What happen to that kid Andrew?”

“He grew up! God, I used to always blame everything on myself. What did I do to cause my father to beat me every day of my life? What did I say to cause those gang members to stab me nearly to death? What did I do to make my-” I stop myself before I can continue. I need some air. I need to get the hell out of this place. Fast.

“It was your sister wasn't it. You didn't know it at first but as you grew older the marks she left on you only cut deeper into your soul. Don’t let her actions from the past ruin your future. Don’t your sister-“ Jet was never able to finish his sentence because my left hand suddenly shot up to his neck and pinned him against the cold brick wall. An uncontrollable rage flows threw my veins and I can’t focus on anything but my fingers wrapped tighter and tighter around the neck of the person in front of me.

“Stop talking. I was an idiot for telling you any of my past. Especially for even mentioning her. Do you really want to know what happened to that kid? The world that he lived in striped him of his innocence.” I whisper. Jet’s hand comes up and he tears himself free. My body is ignited with anger. With one punch I’m on the floor. Jet lifts his arm to prepare to punch me so hard that he’d knock me out but he puts his hand down, turns his back to me and walks away. His actions only make me more upset.
