Melody drove the group to Bobby's cabin that she would often crash at, in Montana. After Dick Roman figured out exactly who the Winchesters were, he caused a lot of mayhem for the two—just enough to land them in jail for a few hours. That was a whole ordeal all in itself.
Sam had been calling other hunters for weeks, trying to figure out what any of the dig sites that Frank had identified before falling off the face of the earth, had in common.
Of course, there was nothing.
Just last week, Melody had received a call from Bobby's old friend, Annie Hawkins. Turned out, Sam and Dean knew her...quite well, actually. Not surprising to Melody, pretty uncomfortable for Blair. That was, until she found out that Sam was soulless at the time of their encounter.
Though, during that entire situation, it came to light that Bobby was in fact with them back on their last hunt. He was able to show himself to them at that old haunted house that Annie got herself tangled into. To say Melody's reunion with her father was a tear fest would be an understatement.
Sam was lying in the backseat with his head in Blair's lap, trying to catch his breath from nearly having his heart ripped out of his chest by Whitman Van Ness. They were rushing back from the grave site to the Van Ness house, positive that they'd left Annie a sitting duck, awaiting Whitman's cruel fate he'd surely had planned for her.
However, the greatest shock wasn't from the fact that Annie Hawkins was a ghost trapped inside of the house, but instead, seeing Bobby sitting on the floor in the foyer when they walked through the front door. "Hey kids," he'd said, having no idea they could see him.
Melody froze solid, unsure of what to do with herself. "Dad?"
Turned out, Bobby was latched on to that old flask Dean carried around religiously, but only then had he found out how to make himself seem to them.
Melody was thrilled to have her dad back, but Sam and Dean were on the same page as far as how unnatural the situation was. They'd spoken about it that night in the Impala while Melody slept, in fact. Dean also knew that Melody would have no part in severing her dad's connection back to them.
"Yeah, I hear you," Sam said into the phone, still attempting to gather as much information on Dick's plans as possible. "Thanks for looking into it. Yep. Bye." He hung up the phone, shaking his head. Each time he hung up the phone, he looked more and more confused. "Nora didn't see a pattern to the sites, either."
"Nothing from the local lore 50 miles in every direction of any of them," Blair chimed in from her seat in front of Sam's laptop. "Just a bunch of old dirt."
The electricity flickered out of nowhere, sending the Winchesters reaching for their guns.
"Take it easy, ya idgits," Bobby mumbled, appearing. "Sorry for the jump scare."
Dean let out a heavy sigh, still unsure of how to handle the whole thing. "So how does this work," he asked, putting his gun away. "I leave the cap off and you just genie your way out?"
Melody shot him a warning glare, but Dean didn't pay it much mind. "I wish it were that easy," Bobby admitted. "The thing is-," his spirit flickered a bit. "Damn it," he huffed, breath taken from him. "It's hard to stay focused. I'm still kind of worn out. I don't know how long until my next dirt nap, so let's just skip to the skinny. Those numbers I gave you to that lot over in Wisconsin ain't gonna be empty for long. I got a gander at Dick's big plan, right before he Lincolned me. They're breaking ground in...what month is this?"
"April," Melody answered.
He cursed under his breath. "They've already broken ground," Bobby noted. "They're building as we're yammering. Check it out. You guys missed it because you've been kind of busy killing ghosts lately. Dick is about to get into the Soylent Green business. That sucker is a state-of-the-art slaughter house and we're the beef."
