They were up bright and early the next morning, ready to venture to Centreville State College. They had a lead saying that Kevin would be there—where else, after all, that at the college of his high school sweetheart?
Much to their dismay, their meeting with Channing, Kevin's alleged girlfriend, was futile. Apparently, since he wasn't going to Princeton, the girl cared none for him. Melody was more pissed off than anything at Channing's audacity. Kevin seemed to be such a trusting boy—he trusted them, after all—and he just got thrown to the wolves once he no longer was deemed useful. Nevertheless, Channing hadn't seen Kevin.
"So why would Kevin be sniffing around here, if not to see her," Melody asked, smiling politely at some of the students throwing confused looks their way. "Maybe we should split up, ask around and see if anybody's seen him?"
Dean scoffed. "Yeah, Asian kid, yay high, at a university. That should be easy."
Still, though, they went their separate ways. Sam and Dean met up at the commons first. Sam was on his laptop when his older brother walked up. "Don't judge me," he sighed. "I got bupkis." A woman walked up with a basket of food, and Sam smiled his thanks, pushing it towards his brother. "Sweet mother of God," he murmured, looking down at the burger and fries. "This for me?"
Sam nodded, chuckling. "Check this out," he started. "So I went through campus security archives around the time Kevin should have been here, anyone look familiar?" He turned the computer around to show Dean his screen, but he was so indulged in his burger that he was humming in delight with his eyes closed. "Dude. It's a burger."
"It's a treasure," Dean corrected, looking down at the screen to see Kevin's face on the security footage. "So what, Kevin come all the way to town and doesn't see his girlfriend?"
Melody and Blair appeared next to them. "Well, while you boys were dilly dallying, I figured out that Kevin was in the computer lab," she put her hands in the pockets of her dress pants. "Called Blair, she found which computer he was on, and did a bunch of techy crap-,"
Blair rolled her eyes, chiming in. "I found the website he was visiting, found his account username, hacked into the website, found when else this username was logged in, then reverse tracked the IP address back to the original user, Kevin, who apparently has been using the same wireless router for the past two months."
Melody and Dean both shared the same bored expression, though, Dean's face fell when Melody stole a fry off his plate, but he didn't say anything about it. "That's spectacular work," Dean acknowledged. "Any chance I can get that in English?"
Blair rolled her eyes, but she was quite satisfied with her ability to stump Dean Winchester. "I think he's at a coffee shop."
Blair was inside said coffee shop, working her nice, pretty girl magic that pretty much got her any information she wanted. She came back out with a satisfied look on her face. "Guy said he'd seen Kevin come in every day, before dipping out into this old abandoned church down some backroad past eighth street."
Sam raised an eyebrow. "And he gave you all of that information from one conversation?" He sounded surprised.
"Sammy, are you forgetting that I had you head over heels in love with me after one conversation?" Blair mused, climbing in the back seat beside him. Sam's face turned a deep shade of red and he kept quiet.
Dean drove them past eighth street and down a creepy overgrown backroad. He sure hoped Kevin was there, because if he wasn't, Dean had a feeling something else was going to be.
Sam and Melody walked up first, with Dean and Blair behind each of them. Melody tried to open the doors, and sure enough they were locked. She tapped her knuckles against the wood a couple of times. "Kevin, it's Melody Singer, open up." There was no response. Dean brushed beside her, picking the lock. He walked in first, Melody right on his heels, then Sam, then Blair.
