"So, you two got married?" Confusion was evident in Blair's voice, as Dean and Melody showcased their new bling. It had been a quiet week, and Dean, once again, had asked Melody to marry him. It was right outside of a diner with the prettiest ring Melody had ever laid eyes on.
"Yeah," Melody grinned. "Last night."
Sam furrowed his eyebrows. "W-we were all together, last night."
Dean threw his and Melody's bag in the trunk. "We would've invited you guys, but we did it right in the middle of-," Melody punched his arm, cutting him off.
"Wait, so it wasn't legal?"
Melody waved off Blair's technicality. "Our life is filled with no kind of formalities. Why start now?"
Castiel nodded. "She does have a point."
Sam grinned, surprised, yet not, at the sudden leap. "Well, congrats." He wrapped an arm around Melody's shoulders. "I'm happy for you both."
"Okay, okay, lets stop with the sap and get on the road, huh?" Dean disrupted the moment, secretly enjoying the conversation.
They stopped off at a small gas station that was not too far from their motel, to fill up with gas, and grab a few road snacks. They didn't yet have a general direction they were headed, but they never liked to linger too long in one town.
Melody and Dean walked out of the gas station, barely able to keep their hands to themselves. The honeymoon phase that sickened Dean so much was one that he was now experiencing himself—and he was loving it more than ever.
"Right, yeah." Sam was on the phone with they walked up. "No, just, uh...just call us whenever you find something," he said. "Yeah. Yeah, 'course. Yeah, hey, you know what? Dean's here. He really wants to talk to you."
Dean frowned at his brother for throwing him under the bus, as he already knew who was on the other end of the phone. "Ms. Tran, hi-." He hit the red button, tossing the phone back to his brother. "Tunnel." He shrugged his shoulders innocently. "What's going on in Tran-Land?"
Sam shook his head at his brother, before answering. "Garth finally got them to his houseboat, but Kevin's having a lot of trouble reading their half of the tablet. So far, bits and pieces. Nothing about boarding up hell."
Melody raised an impressed eyebrow. "Garth has a safe-houseboat?" The goofy man never seemed to surprise her.
"I said the same thing," Blair laughed. "I don't even ask questions anymore."
Melody looked past Dean to see Castiel reading a newspaper. "What's the word, Cas?"
Castiel looked up briefly. "It's a shortened version of my name."
Melody's lips fell into a straight line, unsure of how to counter that. He wasn't wrong, after all.
Dean cleared his throat. "The word, on the Word, Cas," he reiterated. "Any tablet chatter on angel radio?"
Castiel gave him a sideways glance, keeping most of his focus on the newspaper in front of him. "Oh, I couldn't say," he admitted. "I turned that off."
"You can do that?" Blair asked.
He nodded. "Yeah. It's a simple matter of blocking out certain subsonic frequencies," he explained. "I could draw you a diagram if you want."
"No, uh, we're good," Dean answered. "Why'd you flip the switch?"
Castiel's face fell into more of a solemn state. "Angel radio is a direct link to heaven. And I don't want anything to do with that place. Not anymore." He sighed. "I still need to help people. So, I'm gonna become a hunter." None of the group had time enough to hide the look of surprise on their face, but Castiel didn't seem to notice. "I even found a case." He continued. "Oklahoma City, a man's heart jumped ten feet out of his chest. It sounds like our kind of thing, right?" He visibly mimicked Dean's facial mannerisms.
