Edward opened his eyes and found himself in a dimly lit cell, the cold metal bars creating an eerie atmosphere. Confusion clouded his thoughts as he scanned the unfamiliar surroundings.
"Where am I?" Edward muttered to himself, realization dawning upon him as he noticed the restricting confines of the cell. The sense of disorientation heightened as he observed the muted gray walls and the sparse furnishings in the small room.
A soft whimper caught his attention. Turning toward the source, Edward recognized the tearful voice as Emma's—the same little girl who had joyfully received the balloon from Edward.
"Hey, are you okay?" Edward asked, extending a reassuring hand towards Emma. Startled, she swatted his hand away, her wide eyes reflecting fear.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you," Edward apologized, understanding the overwhelming anxiety that gripped the little girl.
"It's okay. I'm sorry for hitting you," Emma replied, her sobs subsiding as she began to comprehend the situation.
Edward offered a warm smile, attempting to comfort her. "By the way, my name is Edward. What's your name?"
"I'm Emma," the little girl replied, her voice still shaky but with a hint of trust.
As their interaction unfolded, footsteps echoed down the cold corridor. A tall, imposing figure clad in armor approached their cell. His cold stare bore into Edward and Emma, and a chilling silence enveloped the room.
"Welcome. You two are finally awake," the tall figure declared with an air of superiority. He proceeded to reveal the grim fate that awaited them—an execution sanctioned by the king due to their perceived uselessness.
Edward struggled to absorb the shocking revelation, while Emma's cries grew louder, echoing through the cold stone walls. The ominous figure threatened Emma, intensifying her distress.
Quickly, Edward stepped forward, his protective instincts kicking in. He reassured Emma and began to formulate a plan for their escape. The figure, content with his intimidation, sauntered away, leaving them to grapple with the looming threat.
"I want to see my mommy!" Emma cried out, her desperate plea echoing in the confined space. Edward, torn between honesty and compassion, gently explained the dire reality—they might not return to their world.
Emma denied the truth, accusing Edward of lying. Feeling the weight of the situation, Edward attempted to console her, eventually lulling her to sleep as her cries turned into soft whimpers.
As Emma drifted into an uneasy slumber, Edward surveyed the cell for any potential means of escape. The grim reality of their predicament weighed heavily on his shoulders, but a glimmer of hope sparked within him when his searching eyes fell upon a seemingly inconspicuous crack in the wall.
"Hmm, this might be just what I need to get out of here," Edward mused to himself, carefully examining the crack and considering the possibilities it presented.
