"I'm home!" Hizashi called from the doorway. He kicked his shoes off and sighed in exhaustion as Aizawa came out to greet him. "How was your first day off in who knows how long?" he teased.
"Well I'm still not sure about you forcing me to take them," Aizawa mumbled, rolling his eyes and leaning in to kiss his fiancé on the cheek.
Hizashi smiled dryly, "It's good for you," he said as he removed the speaker from around the neck. "And you should be spending more time with Eri."
Aizawa helped Hizashi out of his jacket with a soft smile, "I know, I was going to say that it was nice nevertheless. I helped Eri work through some math homework."
"How'd that go?" Hizashi asked as the two of them made their way over towards the couch.
"I am both surprised by how much I actually remember and how much I have forgotten," Aizawa chuckled. He grabbed a mug off the coffee table and handed it over to Hizashi, "Here, Coffee, I made it for you."
"Thanks babe," Hizashi took it gratefully and took a long drink. "Much better," he sighed.
Aizawa grinned, "Enough about me, how was your day?"
"Fine," Hizashi replied, collapsing onto the couch and gesturing for Aizawa to join him. "I ran into Ms Joke again. She says hi by the way."
"Did she say anything else?" Aizawa asked, already anticipating the answer.
Hizashi nodded before leaning his head on Aizawa's shoulder. "Same as usual, asking when we were finally gonna figure out this wedding business."
Aizawa frowned and picked at a piece of lint on the couch, "What did you tell her?"
"Again, same as usual. We have plenty of time so what's the rush right?"
"Right." Aizawa clenched and unclenched his fists a couple of times anxiously. "I do want to marry you, you know that right?"
Hizashi grinned up at his fiancé and poked him on the cheek, "Of course I do, love. And it's alright for you to take some time to get used to the idea."
"I mean we already live together, right? And with a daughter no less," Aizawa said hurriedly. "And well, what do two old men need with such formalities."
"Don't say that," Hizashi laughed, "I don't think I'm ready to be old yet."
Aizawa let his hand wrap absentmindedly around Hizashi's who squeezed it reassuringly. "If you wanted to do things sooner you would tell me right?"
"Of course," Hizashi replied softly. "But I understand you're not used to being the center of attention so I'm happy to wait as long as you need to prepare yourself. When we do have a wedding, it will be for us, not for anybody else okay? For now, it's enough that you said yes when I asked."
"Thanks, Zashi", Aizawa nodded, "That means a lot."
He paused for a long moment then spoke up again, "But you have to admit some of Joke's ideas are a bit frivolous, aren't they?"
Hizashi laughed and straightened up in his seat to kiss Aizawa on the cheek, "Oh no, that you are not getting out of. Take as much time as you need to prepare but when the wedding happens we are going all out."
Aizawa laughed along with him before the two settled into a comfortable silence.
They were soon interrupted by a shrill beep from both of their phones. Emergency notification.
The two of them looked at each other for just a moment before grabbing their phones. "Villain attack," Aizawa said, getting there just a bit faster. He glanced over at Hizashi. "I should take this."
"What do you mean?" Hizashi said, getting to his feet with a grunt and heading over to where Aizawa had hung up his jacket. "This call was for both of us. Eri's in bed right?"
"She is but you've been out all day," Aizawa said sternly as he followed Hizashi to the door.
"I'm fine," Hizashi reassured him, already putting his speaker back on. "Now let's go there's no time to argue."
Aizawa grabbed the keys before Hizashi could reach for them and placed himself in between him and the door. "You're exhausted," he insisted. "Stay home with Eri, I'm sure there will be other pro heroes there."
"But what if there aren't?" Hizashi retorted. He tried somewhat unsuccessfully to push past Aizawa. "Don't be difficult, honey," he said gently.
"It's the first time you've worked a full day since we started living together," Aizawa said, standing his ground. "You aren't used to his kind of overtime yet, stay home."
Hizashi brushed a strand of hair out of Aizawa's face, "This is our job, babe. Pro heroes don't get time off the clock and all of us know that going in. Now let's go. We've wasted enough time already."
Aizawa gritted his teeth and almost tried to push back one more time but he knew Hizashi was right. He couldn't let his feelings get in the way of work. "Fine," he conceded. "Let's go."
"Alright," Hizashi smiled as he opened the door, "I love you."
