"Asia," Uncle Vladimir, who was sitting across me, called out but I pretended not to have heard. Right now, we were all in the dining room for supper, sharing one big oval shaped table.
Gerard, my 2nd cousin from my 3rd uncle, nudged me with his elbow. I looked at him, who was sitting on my left. "Yeah?"
He leaned forward to whisper in my ear. "Uncle Vladimir is calling you."
Flipping fudgecakes.
I turned to look at him. And in my calmest and innocent voice I spoke as I stressed his title. "Yes, uncle Vladimir?"
He looked at me with his dark blue orbs,"How was your Christmas?''
The question caught me off guard. Bastard, he knew what happened!
"Oh, it was lovely."
Mother's ears perked up and asked me with concern. "Yeah, were you alright yesterday dear? You just be a wreak without David."
''U-um, yeah..."
Shit.
"Don't mention that bastard." Dad said grudgingly. He already didn't like David since we first met and now that we broke up, he must be even angrier. He's very protective of me.
Mom shrugged.
When I think about David, what he had done -- his infidelity-- surprisingly didn't hurt me as much as my first and second heart breaks.
In fact I was pretty relieved, why...
My eyes unconsciously found uncle Vladimir's, he smirked while wiping his chin with a table napkin. I immediately averted my gaze and faced dad whose face had turned dark at the mention of ex-boyfriend. I said to him, "Don't worry dad. I won't speak to him ever again."
"Good, I don't want to see him in a 30 mile radius in a place where you are."
What dad said made me really happy, not like I would know if he ever is within a thirty mile radius. "Thanks for the concern, dad. I appreciate it."
Dad nodded and resumed eating. Out of nowhere, uncle Vladimir asked, "Who is this David?"
What the. Is he serious? He already knew who he was and what happened. I glared at him, signaling him to shut the fuck up. Grandpa clicked his tongue. "Tsk, that boy was my mistake, Vladimir."
His brow rose up, "Oh?"
"Father decided it was nice to set that horrible boy up with Asia," my second uncle spoke, "well, the two did fall in love but..." He looked at me sympathetically.
I managed to smile. Ugh, why are we even talking about my love life during supper? Mom, who was sitting in my right hugged me while stoking my hair, "Oh, my poor baby."
Uncle Vladimir's eyes glinted. I don't know why but it sent shivers down my spine.
"I'd like to meet the guy someday." He commented.
"Oh no you don't Vladimir," my third uncle spoke, joining the conversation. "I thought he was a good guy but he downright wasn't the person I expected. He was flaunting his pregnant mistress in front of me and my wife!"
Hearing that, I couldn't believe someone could be so thick-skinned as to do that. Although my feeling for him had subsided, it left me wondering why he had done and cheated on me. It hurts my pride, you know. I mean, is there really something that she had that I don't? I would do everything for him if only he told me, I would've.
Having enough of it, I stood up and raised my glass of wine, "Enough of me already people, all that is in the past. Let's toast to a very merry Christmas!"
