Packed Up

"Awaken, Adeline. It's time for breakfast!" I hear a high pitched voice. It's drained by my tiredness and I don't understand the person until I'm met with cold hands on my back.

I'm suddenly met by the hard, cold floor of my bedroom. I open my eyes to find a little girl standing over me. I recognize her now. It's my little sister.

"Wake up! Mother will be really mad if you aren't in the Grand Hall!" My sister, Florence, runs out of my room and down the hall.

I lazily get up and make my way to my closet. I call for a maid to come and help me figure out which outfit I should wear today, since the family is taking a trip to the city in order to get ready for debutante season.

We were traveling all the way to London, which is very far south of Edinburgh. I had already gotten my clothing and essentials packed into the multiple coaches waiting outside.

It was around 5 am and I needed to hurry and get dressed. The maid I called to my room was Anastasia. She has been my friend for all my life, mostly because she's worked in the castle her entire life.

My family has always thought that everyone who worked at the castle was their family. We treated everyone the same.

We had a large living quarter that was used by only the workers so that they could have their family here instead of taking a long way home each day or week.

Anastasia helps me pick out a mint coloured dress with white stockings and white slip on shoes. She helped me put my hair into a small, braided by that sat nicely on my neck. I pulled a few strands of hair in front of my face.

"You look amazing, Addie. I'm going to miss you." Anastasia says and hugs me. I hug her back, harder then she was.

"I'm going to miss you more. Remember to give a hug to Victor when you see him tonight. And tell your mom that I'm going to miss her." I remind her. She nods.

"I will. I'll see you in a couple months. Remember to find a nice suitor, not one with gross teeth like Sir William." Anastasia reminds me of the last encounter I had with a man.

It was not amusing.

"I shall. Good luck with schooling." I tell her and give her one last hug. After, she leaves to go do her duties around the castle.

I put my clothing on and close the doors to my closet. I walk out of my room and make my way down the east hall. I find myself at a large parlour. I make my way down the steps into the parlour, and take a right to find the grand hall.

My mother, father, 3 sisters, a sister's husband, and 2 brothers are all sitting there, awaiting their food. And me.

"Look who has finally decided to join us. You look lovely, darling." My mother says. She doesn't seem all that mad, but she has a bit of spice in her tone.

"Thanks mother. What's for breakfast?" I ask while taking a seat next to my brother, Thomas.

"A Full." My elder sister, Clementine, responds.  She's only 6 years older than I.

"Thank you." I respond. She smiles in return.

I see that the cooks bring out a Full breakfast, which looks absolutely delicious.

It includes 2 eggs on each dish, 2 slices of beautifully baked bacon, a cup of hot chocolate, and a buttered roll.

Our family has always ate twice themselves in food. We all have fast metabolisms which gives us the pleasure of eating however we please, leaving us without much fat. It's blessing and a curse.
