This novella is an entry for the 2021 OpenNovellaContest based on prompt #45:
The war has begun and soldiers are needed. You have two choices: serve as a soldier, or defy the call and disguise yourself as a shepherd.
Last year's adventure with ONC, The Dreamweaver's Daughter, ended up being an escape from the initial COVID-19 pandemic as I delved deep into ancient Ireland and its folklore.
This year, as we're still caught in the strangeness of a global standstill, I've decided to take inspiration from the fierce beauty of Scandinavia and its ancient mythos. And though I promised myself I would not enter the contest this year, I somehow found myself with 40 tabs open and scribbling another story.
Set in the fictional islands of Skelene, Briarheart tells the story of twins Deya and Dax and their adventure of love, loyalty, bravery, and just a little bit of luck.
Written for somewhere between the younger-geared audience of Dreamweaver's Daughter and the adult Oleander, I hope you'll enjoy the story :)
