Finishing the Speech

The room went silent.
As the sentence left your breath, you watch as Don was trying to wrap his head around what you said. You slowly got up and made your way down to Don, eyes shifting onto him. As you got up you felt a hand grab your wrist pulling you back as your heart beat faster. Ray pulled you back so he could whisper in your ear. "Watch out."

You had known Don for a long time, so you knew that he was one whom to where you wouldn't be shocked if he randomly had some-sort of an outburst. Ray wanted to make sure that you knew that.

You stood in front of Don, still keeping your distance, as he looked at you with the same dead expression. As he was slowly going through all of his memories within the house's walls. "Even Conney? What happened to her?"

With those two sentences, you felt words you didn't know you had, choke in your throat. He started looking around the room as if he was searching for the answer from everyone's expressions.

"You don't know... do you?"

"I did think it was a little strange." Gilda spoke, "The night that Emma and Norman went to the gate, and how whenever they came back they didn't apologize to mom and then have things go back to before." Don looked over at me wearing a 'did you know about this' face. To be honest, I kinda forgot about that, even though Ray and Norman had told me about it earlier that same day.

"Instead you were more zoned out and ignored Y/n. Emma was more serious and Y/n seemed a little different too. I wanted to ask you guys, but I didn't know how, whenever I tried I just got to scared to bring it up."

Gilda finally broke.

Tears streamed down her face, like tiny little rivers. Emma moved across the room, to comfort her, hug her. She was being Gilda's Norman.

Don's eyes went dead, showing no emotion. Just shock as he glanced over at Gilda.

You still were standing in front of Don, but moved back to where Ray was. You started to think aloud. "She did the same thing I did, too scared to bring up the situation afraid to make people angry."

"But is Conney ok?!"
"I don't know."

Your expression changed as Norman let that sentence roll of his tongue. He lied. He knows that Conney is dead, but he lied.

"I don't know if this proves anything, but Emma and Ray looked into everyone's test scores. According to this, ever-"

"Everyone is shipped out in order of lowest scores to the highest. The higher the score the longer you stay. Conney's scores were decently low, compared to everyone else her age. That's why she was shipped out instead of one of the other kids." You said, taking a quick dip into the conversation. Though it wasn't as useful, and everyone (or at least Ray) could tell by your tone you were some-what ticked, you were still glad to be able to help in some way.

"What's wrong with you?" Asked Ray as you two quietly started a conversation. "Norman was wrong to lie. It's just giving them fake hope ... fake happiness."

You were not one to enjoy fake happiness. Especially after not only you, but Ray too, had been living with it by your side for who knows how long.

___________

Emma, the two boys, and I were standing in the hall. Emma decided to go up to her room, leaving Ray, Norman, and I. Ray and I talk to  Norman about what he had said.

"Hey, Norman!" Spoke Ray, he sounded angrier than you thought he was.

"Is this about what I said?"

"What do you mean you "don't know'' ?"

"Norman, you should have just told them the truth. You should have said that they are dead. I know that you said that they were sold off to bad people, which technically isn't a lie, but you said that you didn't know if they were still alive. You should have just told them the truth, instead of giving them the fake hope and happiness that they're now living with." I spoke.

"What we said was the best way to get them to help us."

"But if they weren't the spies, then that was a cruel lie."

"Norman," I spoke, joining into the conversation once more, " how do you plan to tell them the truth?"

I stood in front of him now reaching out for his hands, as I looked up into his shiny blue eyes, " You do plan on telling them, right? You can't feed them false hope forever."

"I'll do it when the time is right, there is still a chance they might be the spies. So we'll set a trap."
I let go of his hands and resumed back to my original position.

"I'll tell them both where the rope is hidden. For Don I will say it's behind my bed, for Gilda I'll say it's in the ceiling of the bathroom on he second floor."

'Oh right, no one knows that Ray is the spy for Mom.'

"W-Wait a minute, what if both of the ropes are still there? Or do you already have plans for that as well?"

Norman just gave a simple nod in response to my questions.

'So he really has all of this planned out, they must do a lot whenever I'm not around.'

"The goal here is to outwit her."

There was a long pause, Norman then walked away. "Goodnight." He said as he walked up the stairs.

There was a pause before I decided to go to bed. "Goodnight!"

"Night primfmf"

"What? I'm sorry I didn't hear the last part."

"I said goodnight."

"Oh ok, goodnight. Oh, and don't stay up all night!"

"No promises."

And with that I went upstairs to bed, arriving just as everyone got settled into their beds as well.

(A/N: hola readers! I generally have NO IDEA why it took me so long to finish this. I hope to get an actual update-schedule soon.

I also might be changing my username to just @/overrblue_ if anyone finds the story through that or something, so yeah!
Thank you for reading and I hope you have a great rest of your day! But before you go...
