A/N: Kind of a short oneshot, just wanted to write something quickly. So hope you like it you little gremlins.
"REID WHERE ARE YOU?" Morgan yelled into his phone as he raced down the I-84. He'd been trying to call Reid for the past 2 minutes as he sped to the unsub's possible location.
He'd noticed that Reid went missing from the PPD about 5 minutes after he actually left. Reid was acting weird before he left, but Derek would never guess that Reid would just go off on his own.
"Morgan, I-I have to. There might not be enough time-" Reid started, only to be cut off by Morgan.
"Kid, y-you can't just-go off on your own," Derek calmed down slightly, his words still reeking of anger. He definitely didn't want to bring up the Hankel case, but he couldn't think of anything else that would make Reid stop and realize how bad an idea this is.
"Reid, don't you remember the last time you went off on your own?" Morgan said, his voice heavy with sadness as the memories surfaced. "I-I don't want to lose you..." Tears started to form in Derek's eyes and he wiped them away quickly, trying to focus on the road.
"This is different-I can save them!" Reid pleaded, sounding almost hysterical.
"Reid please, just wait for me, I'm almost there," Derek said turning into a poor, run-down, slum. He was frantically whipping his head left and right, trying to find Reid's car.
He almost cried when he saw Reid, waiting in his car in front of an "abandoned" house. Derek quickly parked and grabbed two vests from the back seat.
Reid immediately got out of the car when he saw Morgan pull up. He had a look of terrifying determination, a rare side of the young doctor.
Derek tossed him a bullet-proof vest, which he quickly put on. They raced up the splintering wood and Derek kicked down the door.
The house was covered in filth, fast-food wrappers, and soiled clothes everywhere. They profiled this guy as disorganized, but this was insane.
Despite that, Reid raced forward with his gun, seemingly undeterred by the rancid smell of the house. He listened, hoping the girl was still alive. That's when a curt shriek erupted from the basement.
Reid motioned Morgan to break down the door and when he did, a wave of warm air wafted up from below. It carried the scent of burning hair, blood, dread.
Reid quickly descended the stairs, Morgan right behind him. It was..scary to see Reid being so reckless. They turned down the last step, only to be met with a horrible sight.
A girl was strapped to a silver table with a tall, hefty man in full PPE hovering over her with a hack saw. She was fully conscious, the man not caring if she passed out or died from the "procedure".
"PUT THE SAW DOWN," Morgan shouted at the man. The man, whose name was Miles Wilkes, had the saw positioned right above the victim's stomach. A decision flashed across Miles's face and he moved the saw down.
Spencer aimed at his stomach, effectively disabling him. He then ran over to the girl, leaving Derek to secure the unsub.
"Don't worry, it's over now, it's over." Derek heard Reid say to the girl as he undid the leather straps. Derek roughly handcuffed the man and threw him into the SUV.
"Hey, Hotch." Derek picked up his phone, full of voice mail.
He heard Hotch sigh on the other end. "Did you get him?". He knew that he couldn't have stopped Morgan and Reid.
"Yeah, Reid's with the girl, we need paramedics at 2201 Francis Lane," Hotch told me they'd be there in a few minutes.
He went back into the horrid house, met with Reid helping the girl out of that hell hole. He'd covered her with an old cotton blanket and was trying to comfort her.
"Hotch will be here in a second." He told Reid quietly just so the girl wouldn't be startled or get panicked over who Hotch was.
"Alright, and the unsub is secured?" He asked as they walked out.
Derek nodded as he opened the door for them, the bright sunlight flooded the home.
They only had to wait about two minutes until Hotch and the team arrived, with police and medical escort.
They immediately got Wilkes into a police cruiser and the girl into an ambulance.
The team piled into their SUVs, meeting back at the hotel. Reid was noticeably dejected. Nodding as Hotch tells them the plans for the morning.
Once the door was closed on their shared hotel room, Morgan embraced Reid tightly.
"God baby, you scared me so much." He said shakily.
Tears welled up in Derek's eyes, but he quickly wiped his eyes, looking at Reid.
"I'm sorry. I just...couldn't stand the thought of her just stuck there and then..." Reid scratched the back of his neck.
"I know baby, just the last time you went off...I just don't want you to get hurt." Derek tucked a strand of Reid's hair behind his ear. He leaned into Derek's hand. Tears started to slowly fall down Reid's cheeks as memories resurfaced and Derek enfolded him into his arms.
Once Reid's tears stopped, they showered and did all their nightly routines.
They climbed into the queen-sized bed, Reid's face cuddled into Derek's chest and their legs intertwined.
'Hey, baby?" Derek whispered, not sure if Reid was awake.
"Mhm?" Reid sleepily responded into Derek's chest.
"I love you." He said earnestly, playing with Spencer's hair.
"I love you too," Reid said sleepily, tired after the job. He snuggled closer to Derek, with him tightening his grip around Reid.
After that, Derek drifted off to sleep, content that his boy was in his arms. Safe.
