I was going to begin work on my sixteenth chapter for FMITH, but a few words in, I realized that I just really needed a chance of pace. Something a bit more lighthearted.
So I decided to make this one-shot! This one wasn't requested by anyone, I know, I have a ton of requests to go through, and I promise that I will eventually complete them all. Sorry for taking so long.
I'm really getting into the groove, though! This is the most active I've been in a long time! I'm working on another one-shot that I've been typing on and off for an entire month now, I just really feel I need to be in the right mindset to make any progress on it. Sorry it's been so long.
Anyways, enjoy!
--Y/N POV--
I was in the process of returning towards camp, a wild boar happily slung over my shoulder, when I heard the crying.Disappointment and various other negative feelings were commonplace during this time of year. Why? Three simple words-
Choose Your Legends.
Here... how can I explain this? A contest held in all the worlds, where people voted on which warriors would join the rapidly increasing ranks of the Order of Heroes.
In recent years, the Order of Heroes had expanded from their own world to cover many different ones, including mine, the World of Awakening. Being inducted into it was the highest honor someone could receive- you would forever be remembered long after your time.
I had sat by and watched four of these competitions go by. And now, the fifth one had just ended, with unfortunately not a single winner from our world. Poor Chrom... so close, yet so far...
Some people, like me, just shrugged it off and let it pass. I had been ranked #384 this year, abysmal on all fronts. I didn't mind- in my opinion, the closer you got to the top, the more it hurt.
Despite that, many people took it really seriously- too seriously. It brought out the competitive side in people, and usually ended in them hurting others, mentally or physically. Which made it even more pressing to go see what was wrong.
I laid the boar against a tree. I could come back for it later, and flinging around big dead animals wasn't always used to calm people down.
Pushing past some bushes revealed the person who broke the silence of the forest- the person I least expected.
Y/N: Severa?
Leaning against the bark of a tree, hugging her knees while burying her face in them, was the red-haired twintailed short-tempered Severa. Possibly my best friend in the Shepherds, excluding Lucina.
Severa: Y-Y/N? Don't l-look at me!
She looked up, her bloodshot, teary eyes gazing into mine. I had never seen her so... vulnerable. Usually she bottled up her emotions with her easily-angered mannerisms.
But everyone just had to let everything out once in a while.
I sat next to her, embracing her delicately in an attempt to get her to relax. I felt her shoulders slump as my hands wrapped around her waist.
Y/N: Shh, shh, shh... Everything's going to be fine... Now. Why don't you tell me what's wrong?
Severa: I-It's just... I'm so...
She buried her face in my chest, muffled wails and cries still coming from her. I patted her back and whispered softly into her ear.
Y/N: There, there. Take as much time as you need.
After a few minutes, her crying devolved into weak sniffles, while still attempting to hold me tighter.
Severa: Thank y-you... It's just... I know I shouldn't care about it so much, but I do... I ranked #42 this year... And it just set off so many emotions churning in my stomach. Y/N... Do you think I'm good enough? Does anybody... like me? Or am I just... useless...
