Brantley's POV
I lay in the dark bedroom of Kaydence's bus with the occasional headlight creeping through the windows as the bus wheels droned on the highway. A slim hand was curled into a ball gripping my shirt right over my heart. I lifted my hand smoothing a thumb gently over her soft skin regretting not feeling her ring there. It was at the house in a drawer after having it thrown at my head before I could duck out of the way. PJ still snickered from time to time when he thought about the gash the hefty rock left on my cheek. I briefly wondered what Kaydence was thinking as she fell asleep earlier. I mean, I put a lot on her tonight but there were still things to be talked about.
Where did we go from here? Hell, if she even wanted there to be an us anymore. I hoped that is what she wanted after insisting I stay tonight. I was gonna head back home letting her have a little time to process it all. Maybe check with her tomorrow about getting Braxton from Mama. I missed my little partner in crime as much as I missed my wife. Were my demons completely under control? Hell no. They never stopped but I had plenty of reasons to get up each morning and battle them back.
"What are you thinking so hard about?" Kaydence muttered sleepily. I glanced down making out her open eyes in what little bit of light there was.
"Well for one," I said swallowing deeply reminding myself to not hide anything I was feeling from her. "What is your boyfriend going to say about me being here? Because the way our world works, he is gonna find out."
"Nothing," she said with a quiet laugh making me reach over to flip the lamp on casting a soft glow in the room. She blinked her eyes sleepily against the low light. I narrowed my eyes at her because I know it drove me insane that she was with him regardless of what our issues were. I doubted Chase would be thrilled. A soft hand turned my face to look at her. Gray eyes searched mine for a second before she spoke seemingly satisfied with what she saw. "We ended things B so no need to let your caveman tendencies get out of whack."
"I don't have caveman tendencies," I grumbled rolling my eyes rolling to my side trying to get more comfortable. Kaydence let out a snort shaking her head. "What? I don't Kay."
"I am so not having that argument with you tonight," she snickered snuggling into my side tangling her legs with mine. "But I will ask, what are we going to do?"
"We?" I asked almost in disbelief feeling my heart race. "I think it is more what you want Kaydence. I mean, I want to make things work but...."
"Why don't you start by telling me what you have planned?" she whispered twisting her fingers in my shirt nervously. "I know Aaron knows my schedule by heart because of Kerri but I'm at a loss lately with what they have planned for you."
"Other than a couple of shows with Luke next few months," I said feeling okay with what I had decided because normally I preferred to be busy but other things needed my attention worse than I needed to be on a stage. "I was hoping there was this powerhouse blonde that may have an opening for a roadie. I can lift all kinds of heavy objects."
"Miranda would have you walking around in your leather chaps if she could get away with it," Kaydence teased her eyes alight with mischief. I growled at her pulling a soft laugh from her. "I mean it would be a sight and...."
"She has Brendan for that shit," I grumbled wrapping my arms around her looking at her earnestly. "I meant you. I told Aaron that for the rest of the year other than hitting the few commitments I can't get out of; I needed a break. And I mean a break from it all. Recording. Interviews and shows. Maybe do something small next year. Right now, I think my place needs to be trailing you all over the U.S. not running around on stage away from you. I mean, if you would want that. I know you probably need..."
