A shooting star across the sky...

Marcus watched the star with his hands in the pockets of his blue sweater as he stepped toward the edge of the clearing. His brown hair smoothed down in a tidy manner against his head and his brown eyes stared intently at the star.

However the star didn't stream across the sky like most. It dissapeared for a short moment before it shot back at him like a slingshot. Marcus stepped back surprised until he realized that the star was anything but. A boy shot at him with lightning speed, he was green and glowed light a glowstick. The green boy had no mouth but his eyes glowed yellow as he stopped before me. He was completely solid like crystal and crystal knitted from his hair as what looked like make shift clothes weighed him down. He had wings that came out of his back to let him fly.

"What are yo-" Marcus started. The thing cocked it's head at him before interrupting his sentence with a jab at his chest. The man didn't hurt however but felt like the crystal being stopped quick as though not to hurt him. Confused Marcus stepped back away from the boy before it lunged for him and grabbed his sweater.

Marcus screamed as the being began to drag him across the ground flying once more into the sky. The ground now distant as Marcus stopped screaming. He opened one eyes slowly before seeing the beautiful sky around him. He spewed out his arms and legs almost as if he were flying too and not being dragged by this boy.

Marcus looked around at the water and the lake outside of his home before the green boy carried him to an island floating just above the water. The green boy dropped Marcus slowly before a great pine tree. Marcus looked up at it only to see a light coming from the tree. As he looked to the very top he saw what looked like a yellow fire but it had a green crystal inside it.

The green boy stared at it intently but Marcus became confused. Out of the woodwork and the trees small green crystal creatures came with yellow fires dancing over their heads. They smiled and slowly crept toward Marcus.

Marcus laughed and plopped to the ground to play with the tiny creatures. They felt like glass in his hands and the crystal boy just stared at him emotionlessly.

A sound came from the trees and the clearing turned dark. The small crystal creatures clung to Marcus and underneath the great tree. The green boy glowed slightly and he looked around suspiciously. Marcus ushered the crystal creatures to the tree but he couldn't see anything besides them and the green boy.

*Smack* Marcus had been hit over the head with something. He turned around fearfully to see a tall man in a black coat staring him down. He wore a top hat and had a cane to support himself. The man smiled a toothy grin and adjusted his monocle.

"Hello boy" the man said in a low scraggly voice. Marcus became even more confused until the man pulled the yellow fire out of his coat pocket. It had been the one that had sat on top of the tree. It glowed with almost a green aura as the man held it out to Marcus.

Marcus took the flame into his hands expecting it to burn. Instead it felt cool to the touch despite the flicker of a real flame. Marcus looked to the great big tree of which he could only see the outline. Then he felt a tap against his leg and saw one of the small crystal creatures that could barely walk. Marcus understood now... The fire was their life sorce.

Marcus turned around to the tree and started to walk to it. The man moved with lightning speed for someone with a cane. He grabbed his shoulders and whispered in his ear.

"Just take it..." the man said. Marcus tried to pull away. The green boy knew what was happening and took off across the sky to them.

"Wealth beyond your dreams...

             Absolute power...

                      All at your fingertips...

                                   Do it..."

Marcus didn't know what to do. Everything he ever wanted? Did he really want to give that up? He stared intently into the flame. Why would he give up some power just for some tiny crystal people?

"No!!" Marcus heard a shout. The green boy flew past him smacking his crystal fist into the man. He stumbled back and Marcus stood there contemplating his decision as if devoid of the situation around him.

At the edge of the old man's cane a spear head shot out unfolding itself from the tip. The green boy's hand became a crystal sword as he attacked the man viciously. What am I doing? Marcus thought he shook his head before turning just in time to see the old man knock down his friend.

"RUN!!" his friend. Marcus stared for a moment. He took a step forward to help him. He hesitated and by the time he got back his footing, he was gone. The man jabbed his friend in the chest with his spear. It pierced the crystal boy and fear overtook Marcus. He ran.

As he ran his only thoughts were of the now cold crystal frame of what used to be his friend. He ran with his heart racing, not from the running, but from the guilt. He held the small flame to his chest as tears brimmed at his eyes. What had he done? His friend was dead because of his want for power.

His tears were halted as he came to a cliff and stopped just before he fell. A gasp escaped his lips but as he turned there stood the man grinning with teeth like daggars. He held the spear out level with his neck. He motioned for Marcus to hand him the crystal flame. He considered it for only a moment, but wouldn't you if it meant death otherwise. After the death of his green crystal friend a moment was all it was.

He glared at his friend's murderer harshly and hugged the flame to his chest with a shake of his head. The man motioned again with anger evident in his features. Marcus shook his head again and took a small step back. The man sliced at him with his spear and Marcus took another fearful step to the edge of the cliff. As he let his foot hit the unstable ground he felt the weak ground give way before his feet.

He fell down, down. He screamed clutching the flame. This was it. This was his final moments. That's when he heard a firmiliar wispy voice in his head.

"Do not be afraid...

   Your heart is strong...

        That's why I chose you...

              You can still win this...

                     YOU ARE BRAVE...

                            YOU ARE STRONG...

                                   YOU ARE...

                                           A GAURDIAN!"

As he spoke the last words Marcus felt a light grow deep inside of him. He opened his eyes and a green light emenated from them. Then as the light he felt coming from him left his body it spiraled out in a green pillar of hope. He felt his body crystallize and smiled. He was doing this for his friend. The forest protector. He was the Savior. Marcus was gone and what floated in his place still clutching the crystal flame, and flew up to where the shocked old man stood on the edge of the cliff... was the Gaurdian.
