Chapter 1: The new correlation

My eyes keep darting glances at the clock hung on the bland walls. My whole life I dreamt of having a job doing the thing I've felt so passionate about but here I am, sat in a crowded yet empty room bored out of my mind waiting for midday to take my lunch break.
I slowly point the tip of the pencil down at the paper and wait for the inspiration to hit me. Nothing. I sit there as I had for the past half an hour desperately waiting for an idea of for a customer to walk through the door. But I'm just fooling myself. I've been in this room since 8am when we opened and not one customer has stepped through that door.

Meanwhile on the street
"What exactly are we even shopping for?" Amy asks desperately clearly tired.
"I don't know but we haven't been shopping in so long and I need to treat myself to something nice with this bonus" Penny replies with more enthusiasm.
"I should've stayed at home" Sheldon chips in rolling his eyes.
"That was the plan until you decided that Stuart and Raj were being too mean to you" Penny reminds him
"Yeah well-" he couldn't think of any kind of comeback or anything to say really. They then stopped walking as Penny noticed something in a shop window. A cute plum coloured dress and next to it a big red sign spelling out the word 'sale'.
"Amy look at how cute this dress is!" She excitedly exclaims pulling her friend closer to the store window to look.
"This is the place we got the dresses from for when Sheldon and I won the Nobel prize" Amy responds slightly interested.
Sheldon having gone too long without talking finally finds a reason to comment, "That really was an amazing day".
"Let's go innnn!" Penny practically orders her two friends as she rushes inside"

Alice's POV
I suddenly look up supprised as I hear the bell jingle ad the door opens. My eyes glance over and I see a tall man and two beautiful women, I could've sworn I had recognised them but I couldn't remember where from so I let go of this thought. It takes me a moment to greet them as I remain shocked for a few more seconds.
"Hey, is there anything I can help you with today?" I ask them as I get up from my chair behind the cash register.
"Oh I was just looking at the Plum dress in the window" the blonde girl replies.
"If you're interested I can get it for you to try on?" I ask making sure my voice is calm and friendly wanting to make a sale and also knowing that any conversation I could have I would cherish.
"That would be lovely thank you!" So I quickly get the dress from the mannequin with no struggle at all, I guess after all these year things like that become second nature.
"Here you go, the dressing rooms are just that way" I say handing her the soft satin dress and pointing over to the stalls. As she leaves to try it on I turn my attention to the other two,
"Is there anything I could help you with today?"
"Well unless you have an Iron man suit I'm afraid I'm not interested" the tall man replies quite nonchalantly.
"Sheldon, be polite" the brunette girl, who I'm assuming is his wife given the wedding rings, says quite sternly before apologising to me.
"Oh it's okay, I don't keep the super suits in the store they're much too valuable" I say trying to engage in a fun conversation. However I quickly realise the taller man didn't quite catch onto the sarcasm,
"Really? Wow that's so cool that you actually have them!" He sounds very enthusiastic about this. For a moment I ponder what to say,
"Well honestly I only have black widow suit and some other superhero looks at home which I once made for myself"
"You should wear them to the parties Stuart sometimes hosts down at the comic book store" he suggests to me.
"Oh I considered when I heard about the new years party but I was just too busy" I say now beginning to feel a little uncomfortable at the topic, I haven't worn those outfits since the first year I moved here from England.
Luckily the conversation was interrupted by the blonde girl coming out looking stunning in the plum dress.
"Oh my gosh! I love it!" She squeals.
"You look great bestie!" The brunette girl quickly compliments her. For a moment I have that same feeling I had earlier that I knew them but I tried to shift it, I'd probably just seen them around somewhere.
"The fit is lovely on you, it doesn't look like it would need any altering" I say admiring her in the dress.
"Well I think I'm going to have to buy it!" She says. A smile forms on my face and I remind myself why this job is so worthwhile, seeing people so happy in clothes I made.
"Yay brilliant!" As I say this she goes back to get changed into her normal clothes and I move to my spot behind the cash register trying to find the coupon cards my boss had given me. As I'm grabbing them I notice a picture I had on the pin board and immediately remember where I recognise the women from.
"You're the people who won the Nobel prize the other year!" I exclaim a little over enthusiastically,
"Sorry, I just knew I recognised you and your friend and couldn't remember where from" I say laughing a little scared that I freaked them out.
But the woman smiles at me and moves closer to the till,
"Yes Amy, this is Sheldon and Penny is the one buying the dress" Amy informs me.
"I'm Alice" I say enjoying the conversation.
"You designed such a lovely dress for that" she says kindly.
"Awe thank you, you looked lovely in everything to be fair".
"Yes we won the Nobel prize in Physics for our discovery of super asymmetry" Sheldon says seeming like he needs to talk before he goes crazy.
"Yeah I read a bit about it" I say trying to not give away the fact that while I sort of understand the actual premise I don't understand the details.
"Yes it explains how-" about to go on a rant he is cut off by Penny coming out if the dressing room,
"No Sheldon, the rule of shopping day is no talking about sciency stuff". She hand me the dress which I fold neatly and pack into a paper bag, adding in the coupon card. She makes the purchase and they get ready to leave.
"You should come to the next party at the comic book store" Sheldon tells me.
"I'll try" I respond and say goodbye to them as they leave the store.
