HERMIONE ARRIVED TWO NIGHTS BEFORE THE WORLD CUP. Ginny's room was a little crowded due to the two extra mattresses and trunks, and Crookshanks (he would take turns to sleep on their faces). It was chaotic but laughter filled every corner of the tiny room.
Although it was hard for Rory to make her way to the door as her bed was the one shielded by the other two, and had to jump between the cracks and avoid the slippery pillows. The bruises and the fact that she nearly lost her little toe weren't strong enough to fight back the warmth and happiness she felt in the company of the other two witches.
That same night they were awake for hours, enjoying their first-ever sleepover. Rory and Hermione already shared a room at Hogwarts (so it was like a sleepover every day for them already), but that night, in particular, was different because they didn't have to wake up early to go to class or throw pillows at Lavender's heavy snores.
The candles had already melted by their third game of cards and the moonlight was the only source of light as it slipped through the window to illuminate their faces, which were red and sweaty from all the laughter they had to suppress so they didn't bother the other occupants in the house (although they were nothing compared with Fred and George's room explosions).
''What is your favourite word?'' asked Hermione as she started to hand out the muggle cards for the fourth time.
Rory thought deeply while she sipped on the cold lemonade that they had sneaked out of the kitchen. ''I really like the word picaporte.''
Ginny facepalmed and Hermione frowned at her choice, Rory looked at them stunned at their reactions, not aware that she had changed the language (a really nasty habit that her father couldn't stand). ''And that is. . .?'' asks Hermione.
Rory had to laugh silently at her face, she could practically see the dictionary inside her head turning pages at a rapid pace searching for the unfamiliar word.
''It's Spanish for latch.''
Hermione shook her head abruptly, and looked at her expectantly, her eyes secretly hoping she had heard it wrong and waiting for a proper answer.
Rory's stomach lurked and banged the palm of her hand against the cool tiles of the floor. ''It has a nice sound!''
''Yeah, if you can pronounce it that is,'' retorts Ginny, aiming to get a pillow from her bed.
''Look, when I say it fills my mouth completely, and it's very smooth, it's like—''
Rory wasn't able to finish her sentence as Ginny threw a pillow at her. ''Hey, Ro, your Spanish rambling is showing.''
''Oh shut it, Weasley,'' she answers throwing the pillow back at her.
Hermione shook her head and discarded her cards to the side, the game had been forgotten a while ago and wasn't as amusing to the pure-blood witches as it had been for the first round. ''So, anyways, Harry 's coming tomorrow?'' she asks.
''Yup,'' answered Rory placing her cards next to Hermione's and glancing at Ginny, who (as expected) was as red as her hair. ''Tomorrow's the day.''
''So —''
''How do I do it?'' asked Ginny, any sign of confidence she had had before sadly disappearing at the mention of Harry.
''What?'' they both asked in unison.
''I mean, I feel like he'll never like me.'' She sighed and pushed her cards away from her. She drank her lemonade with glassy eyes, looking like an abandoned dog who just lost her owner.
