"What was that!" yelled Kelly as Celeste pulled her to the street.

"I had to get you out of there!" Celeste explained.

"You just ruined my one chance of finding out more about my mom! You ruined everything!" Kelly screamed.

She yanked her arm out of Celeste's grasp and ran to the forest. Celeste ran after her.

Kelly sat near a waterfall. She first found the falls when she was eight after getting mad at a social worker. It was just before she met Camren. Now she came here whenever she was upset.

She wanted to kill Celeste. How could she drag Kelly away like that? It's like Celeste didn't even want Kelly to have a mom. It was so unfair! Everyone else had a mom. Kids at school talked about being mad at their mom. Kelly barely could remember her's. Her mom ran away to find a stupid rock and left her to think she was crazy. It was unfair. It was the most unfair thing to ever happen. Kelly yelled all of this to the waterfall.

Celeste was trying to find Kelly. Kelly was a fast runner, unlike Celeste. She had heard yelling and tried to follow the sound, but she got lost. Even worse, Celeste couldn't hear the shouting anymore. Celeste tried to call Camren, but she had no signal out here.

Finally, Celeste came to the spot where she first met Kelly. She sat down, exhausted. She checked the time, she had left the Mayor's house two hours ago. Celeste wished she brought her backpack. It had snacks in it and two water bottles. She was scared she'd be stuck here all night. Surely Camren would notice they were missing.

Celeste thought back to something her dad had told her when they went camping.

"If you're lost, stay where you are. If your lucky, someone will come looking. Make a shelter, just in case. Look for food, but always stay in sight of camp. Make a fire with lots of smoke. It'll keep you warm and help people find you."

Celeste made a fire. Well, a branch that glowed slightly. She sighed and blew a little. Another branch started smoking. Celeste added more leaves, and eventually, she had a nice fire going. She sat quietly and waited.

By now, Kelly had calmed down. She started walking back home. Camren was probably starting to worry. Kelly saw smoke, but she ignored it. It was probably some kids playing some sort of joke. When she got home, she saw Camren standing on the porch, looking around. When she saw Kelly, her eyes lit up and she ran to Kelly.

"There you are! Where were you? I was so worried! It's three-o'-clock! I told you to be home no later than one! I was about to come over there!" she said, pulling Kelly into a hug.

"I'm fine Camren. I just got a little mad. It wasn't as bad as Celeste probably made it out to be," said Kelly.

"Wait. Celeste isn't with you?" asked Camren.

"No. I thought she came here when I ran off."

Camren stopped hugging Kelly and took her phone out of her pocket.

"Hello, I'd like to report a missing child," said Camren.

Celeste was getting hungry. She decided to try to find food. She found some blue berries. She remembered a rhyme her dad would tell her: Red and yellow, kill a fellow/ Purple and blue, good for you. Celeste decided to eat the berries. She felt like she was in the hunger games.

"This is fun," she told herself, "This happens all the time in books. This has a happy ending. Right?"

Celeste paced around the fire. Why hasn't someone come? Had they even noticed she was gone. The sun she checked her phone: 4:39. She sat on a rock and tried to calm down. Shee was panicking. She should just go home instead of following Kelly.

"Deep breaths, deep breaths."

Kelly went with Camren, Jasmine, and Jasmine's mom to look for Celeste. They decided to look where the smoke was. They hoped it was Celeste, or at the very least someone who saw her.

Kelly felt guilty. If she didn't run away, Celeste wouldn't be lost. Kelly wished she didn't run away, but she always ran. Every time. No matter what. To make it worse, Kelly couldn't stay away. She always came crawling back. It was always her fault. It was her fault her dad went to jail, her fault her mom left, and her fault Celeste was lost.

Celeste kept going through breathing exercises. Then she heard a noise. People calling her name!

"I'm over here!" yelled Celeste.

Kelly ran through the trees, "Celeste! There you are!"

"You found me!" Celeste said, breathing out a sigh of relief.

"There you are! I was so worried about you," Camren said.

Camren hugged Celeste. The group headed out of the forest. They went to the house and after eating dinner, Kelly and Celeste sat in Kelly's bedroom.

"Why did you make us go home? I know Camren didn't call you," asked Kelly.

"Mayor Lai was creeping me out. He was taking notes when you were talking," said Celeste.

"So? That's not that creepy. Maybe he wanted to look at those later."

"Also if he wanted to talk about your mom so much, why didn't he ask to talk before. You have to admit it was a little strange."

"NO! It's not strange! He just wanted to talk! You're overthinking this whole thing! I'm going to bed," said Kelly, grabbing her pajamas.

"Kelly. You have to listen to me! Don't trust Mayor Lai! He doesn't want to help you! I don't know what he's planning, but it's dangerous! He seemed to think your mom knew a secret that she told you the night she died!"Celeste tried to explain, but Kelly already shut the door.

"She doesn't understand," Kelly said to her reflection, "No one ever does."

Kelly tried to hold back the tears as she got into her pajamas. When she walked back into her room, Celeste was already in her pallet. Her earbuds were in and she turned away from Kelly when she walked in.

Fine, Kelly thought, I don't need Celeste.

Kelly got in her bed and tried to fall asleep.

Hey! I'm super sorry for not posting last week, we went camping and there wasn't any internet or service. Anyway, please don't trust the wilderness survival tips Celeste was using. They're based on an article I read three years ago. I don't know who accurate they really are. Please don't trust or use these. I will not be held responsible for anything regarding them.
