"I'm home!" I yelled, stepping into the doorway.
Silence.
"Hello?" I called again, maybe my dad and uncle were out. Walking into the living room I stopped and smiled. Both my dad and Uncle Zashi were lying on the couch fast asleep, the tv still playing in the background. I gently took a blanket and placed it over my two sleeping parents, before quietly heading to my room.
After showering and changing into some comfy clothes I plopped on my bed. I decided to continue reading Wuthering Heights, eager to resume where I left off. After a couple hours of reading, my mind started to wander. There was less than a week until entrance exams. The anxiety I had pushed away was starting to creep back in.
It will be fine.
I reminded myself that I wouldn't have to go through it alone. Shinso would be there too. At least if we failed we could fail together, somehow that brought me comfort. I smiled thinking about the sleepy looking boy. I was quite an introvert, and I never usually longed to be around people; save for my dad and uncle. For the first time in a while, there was a longing in me. I missed Shinso's presence. I was excited to spend more time with him. I missed his goofy brightness that could add some light to my dark waters.
Maybe tomorrow I would text him again. For now, I needed food.
Tiptoeing downstairs, incase Zashi and Dad were still sleeping, I went to the kitchen. Craving something sweet I opened the fridge to see if we had any leftover cakes or cookies. It was practically empty. I sighed and sat down at the counter, my chin in my hands as my stomach growled loudly
Maybe I could bake something!
I wasn't exactly a great baker, and cringed at the memories of my failed cake attempts. Maybe this time it would work. Quickly I picked out a recipe on my phone and gathered the ingredients.
"What's all this?" My dad yawned, walking into the kitchen.
"Oh! You guys are awake!" I exclaimed happily, seeing Hizashi walk in behind him. "I'm making cake! Could use your help too."
"Great idea n/n!" Uncle Zashi yelled, all the sleepiness vanishing from his face. In a flash he was at my side with a bowl and whisk.
"You two handle it," my dad grumbled, "Just don't make a mess."
"Ohhh no you don't," I quickly walked over to him with a stern look and pulled at his arm.
"Here," I handed him some eggs, "You can beat the eggs."
After a bit of objection he complied, and soon all three of us were hard at work on our delicious masterpiece.
"Here princess, is it too sweet?" Hizashi asked while handing me a spoon with a bit of batter.
"Hmm, not sweet enough," I decided.
"Yes ma'am," he started adding more sugar.
Soon enough, our cake batter was complete, and I carefully distributed it into a couple of pans.
"Put it in for twenty minutes," I told my dad. I looked at the leftover batter. There wasn't enough left to fill another pan, I decided. Lifting the spatula to my mouth I took a big bite.
"Y/n! Stop eating the raw cake!" My dad told me sternly. I looked at him with big eyes behind my glasses.
"He's right n/n," Uncle Zashi nodded, as he grabber the spoon from me and took his own big bite of cake batter.
