*Shinso's POV*

I huffed, out of breath from running. My quirk was useless, I was useless. All I could do was run through alleys and hope a robot didn't catch up to me. Small amounts of guilt dripped into my heart at the thought of leaving Y/n. I shook my head, I was doing her a favor. Having me alone would just slow her down. She would try to help me, and that was the problem. I had to do this on my own.

I finally saw a clearing up ahead, and light burst through as I ran out of the narrow alleyway. The area was a big square, fed by four main roads and various streets. This must be the center of the battle arena.

A lot of other kids were already here, probably figuring it was prime robot territory. They weren't wrong. Dozens of fallen robot carcasses lay on the ground, cluttering up the streets.

I felt my feet vibrate. Out of a main road, a massive robot bigger than any one I had seen stomped up. I vaguely recalled its shape as being a zero pointer from the test manuals.

I was about to turn the other way, when I saw that the robot was heading straight for a group of about half a dozen kids.

Move you damn idiots!

No one was moving. I craned my neck, but my view was blocked by debris. The ground shook as the robot walked closer. The kids started to scream.

*Y/N's POV*

I looked stared at the group of kids a few meters away from me. Two of them were trapped under a bar of metal from a fallen robot, while the others were scrambling to try and help them. The giant robot loomed closer.

"I'll kill you bastard! Even if you aren't worth any points I'll take you out!" The kid with an angry expression I was earlier screamed at the robot. I watched him in awe as he ran up to its feet, explosions popping from his palms. My awe soon became horror as I understood his plan, or lack thereof.

"Stop!" I screamed at him, running forward. I was too late. The boy blasted one of the robot's feet, causing it to lose balance. The group of kids were too close, if the robot fell they would get crushed.

Without a second thought, I got between the kids and the robot, hands raised. I felt the connection between its metal body and my hands increasing with every moment the robot fell closer. I briefly felt the moment of tension in the air, and I latched onto it. The robot quivered, and stopped. Its torso was leaning over me, the invisible pressure felt like I was holding up the weight of the world.

"Y/n!" I knew that voice.

"Sh-shinso?" I croaked, my arms were quivering.

"Are you alright?" He yelled from behind me.

"Get, them out of here," I grunted, "fast." I heard clanging and yelling as Shinso got the kids out of the street.

"Y/n," Shinso called, "I can't get one out!"

"I-I think my leg is broken," a new voice mumbled weakly. I hesitated a moment. Every second felt like a burning block threatening to flatten me into the earth.

"Alright," I said faintly, hoping someone could hear me. My ears were ringing.

"Shinso, I'm going to try and lift that metal bar up, as soon as some of the weight gets off help them up and get the hell out of here."

"Y/n, are you sure you can do that?" Shinso asked, his voice now mirrored the worry I felt.

No

"Just help me!" I shifted the force suspending the robot into one arm and slowly lowered my other. Three breaths in, two breaths out. Carefully, I pulled my other hand behind me, trying to feel for the metal bar that was trapping the examinee. My fingertips brushed it. The tiny, faint, invisible string that connected me to any metal in the world. I pulled.
