As I woke up I noticed something was different.
The first thing I realized was that I had been sleeping on the couch and the second was that someone was snoring.
I jumped off the couch from surprise, hitting someone in the process.
"Shit" I whispered, realizing that Owen was sleeping on the floor next to the couch I was on and I had just kicked him in the side.
We must've fallen asleep.
Owen began to wake up rubbing his side as he stood up.
"Did you kick me?" He asked, confused and a bit groggy from just waking up.
"Sorry, I didn't realize you were there" I told him sheepishly, unable to make eye contact.
"Sorry I slept over, you fell asleep on the couch and I didn't want to wake you up" he apologized.
I felt mortified, I had basically forced him into sleeping on the floor here last night. What a great friend I was. I bit my lip.
"What's wrong?" Owen asked, concerned.
"Nothing" I responded trying to sound chill, faking a smile.
"First off you're a terrible liar and second you always bite your lip when you're upset about something so spill" he told me, crossing his arms over his chest.
I don't know why it surprised me that he remembered things like that about me but it did, I guess I was just getting used to our new friendship.
"I just feel bad that you had to sleep here last night, on the floor and then to make things worse I just kicked you"
"You're really a terrible hostess" he responded, grinning.
"Shut up! I'm serious, I'm sorry!" I told him looking him in the eye
"Apology accepted. Now who wants breakfast?" He asked, making my brows raise.
Next thing I knew Owen was in the kitchen whipping up a huge breakfast. I had offered to help, since this was in fact my house and he was technically a guest, but he insisted on doing most of the work.
I wasn't entirely useless though, I grabbed two plates and some cutlery and then began to brew a pot of coffee. As Owen finished I helped him bring all of the food to the table. He'd made eggs, toast, a huge stack of blueberry pancakes, and my favourite bacon.
"Can I ask you something?" Owen said, as I went to add more bacon to my plate
"Sure" I said, hesitantly.
"Well, um my parents are out of town this weekend and my friends kinda forced me into throwing this party tonight. There's gonna be a bunch of people there and I was just wondering if you'd like to go? I just think that it would be pretty lame without you there. Also, before you reply please remember the wonderful breakfast I just made you" he said, catching me off guard. Of everything he could have just asked me I didn't think it would be that.
"That's why you wouldn't let me help with breakfast?" I scoffed.
"Well not entirely, I also love brownie points" he told me smirking.
"I don't know" I told him, rolling my eyes at his comment. I could think of a million things that I would rather spend my Saturday doing.
"Please! I'll totally owe you one. I know that it's been awhile since we've hung out, but it's really nice having you around again Celeste and I would really appreciate it if you came tonight. I'll even pick you up and drive you to my house if you don't have a ride!" he pleaded.
It was really nice having him around again for me too. I didn't realize how much I had missed my old best friend and now that he was back I didn't want to lose him again. I just hoped that I wouldn't regret my decision.
"Okay fine" I told him, sighing.
"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" He chanted.
We finished eating and I cleaned up, refusing Owen's help after he'd just cooked our entire meal. He left shortly after, telling me that he'd be back at 8 to pick me up.
I had a feeling that it was going to be a long night.
***
By the time 8 rolled around I had showered, dressed and then redressed three more times before deciding on a pair of blue jeans and a brown tight knit sweater. My hair had been brushed and blown dry, and was now settling into its natural wave. I had considered applying makeup, but since I have a lack of experience in that department I just decided to apply some mascara and call it a day.
I had also sent Bri a text the second Owen left my house. She arrived an hour ago with an excited grin on her face that only deepened the more I told her about my night yesterday.
"I can't believe you spent the entire night with Owen Williams and he slept over!" She squealed wiggling her eyebrows at me.
"Ew Bri! It wasn't like that, he slept on the floor" I told her, checking my watch it was 8:05, Owen would be here any second now.
"Ugh you're no fun." She joked.
"More like I'm living in the real world while you're off in make believe land" I told her.
"Well why wouldn't I be it's so much more fun over here" she joked.
I stuck my tongue out at her before hearing a knock at the door.
"Oh my god it's him!" Bri squealed again, I swear this was going to be a long night if Bri kept acting like this.
I shot her a look before heading to the door.
"Hey" I said when I opened the door for Owen.
"Hey" he replied giving me a lopsided grin.
"Oh my god you two are so cute!" Bri called out from the living room. I rolled my eyes, but I could feel my cheeks getting warm. Was she trying to embarrass me?
"Don't mind Bri, I hope it's okay that I invited her" I told him, apologetically.
He let out a small laugh
"The more the merrier" he responded.
We all piled into his car and soon we were off to his house. The nerves were starting to sink in now that I was fully realizing the fact that I was about to go to my first high school party and with Owen Williams. I was bound to get some looks.
It's okay! You're okay! It's all going to be okay I tried to reason with myself, but the panic would not die down.
I heard Owen whisper to me, breaking me out of my thoughts.
"You okay" he asked.
I gave him a small nod and an even smaller smile, which probably wasn't very convincing.
"Don't stress. You'll be fine, plus I'll be there beside you the whole time" he said, giving me a smile.
It helped to calm me down a little, key word being little.
But soon my thoughts were completely wiped clean as we drove into Owens driveway.
I hadn't been to Owens house in a couple years and had forgotten just how big it was. The driveway was huge, and was currently holding multiple people's cars that had come to the party. It led up to a large entrance with a tall glass door and marble pillars.
The house had a very modern design.I heard Bri in the back saying,
"Holy shit! This is your house?"
Maybe tonight wouldn't be so bad after all, at least if worst came to worst I knew many places where I could go and hide.
